Mollies mating

I have 3 balloon mollies (1 male, 2 females) and it seems that the one male is always trying to mate/chase only one of the females and never the other, is this normal for him to be interested in only the one female?

Get one more female because if he only goes after one female, she will become stressed and die. I suggest you get another female and remove the male as they will breed rapidly.

I actually planned on just leaving the fry in the main tank with the other fish and just letting them get eaten or whatever cuz I have bettas in my tank too but I actually have 7 Molly fry that I'm raising right now so I don't want to go buy more fish....

Then I suggest you get rid of the male. He will not stop trying to mate with the female. She will soon die from the stress of the male.

He doesn't chase her all the time just occasionally...Like maybe for 5-10 minutes, 2-3 times day

They will eat and swim by each other without the male bothering her at all

Ah ok. Then what are you asking? He will always do this if that is what you are asking.

That is a great question. He could be, for once only in love with her. instead of being a playboy like all mollies and males are. Hahaha. Honestly he could think the other female isn’t mature enough or he just doesn’t like her. It happens. As to why, I can’t help you there.

Are all the mollies the same color? I've seen other people suggest that the male may choose to only mate with females that are closer in color to his own, if given the choice.

That makes sense with mine. The male is white with black spots and the female he keeps mating with is all white and the other female that he leaves alone is yellow/white with black spots
