Mollies & Guppies Together?

original plan was a betta with small school of tetras (6)....
But now I'm leaning towards maybe mixing up a few mollies/guppies.... Would it be ok to have for example 1 black Molly and 1 Dalmatian Molly (instead of pairs of same)... and would they be ok with 2 guppies? Like the fancy guppies?

So would be
1 Dalmatian guppy
1 Black Guppy
2 fancy guppies

and if that's ok to mix what sex is best? don't want to breed so could I get all 4 males? or better if all 4 females or does it not matter ? (I not sure how aggressive if all 4 males would be )

Would the mollies nip at the guppies tails? and would they be fine without adding salt as plan to add some kuhlI loaches later and can't have salt with them obviously.

 

What size tank? Mollies do best in 30+ gallons.

If you get males and females, they will breed.

I breed Molly's to feed my corals; I've got 8 adults, and they give me hundreds of babies a month.

Here's my 72 gallon Molly reef.

The guppys will breed, too, almost as quickly.

Yep, you could even get more than 2 in a 20. 6 or 7 would be fine in a 20 long.

EDIT: As for your sex question, males are prettier but will be more aggressive with one another. Females will be less aggressive but could be pregnant from the store.

 

If you are having just guppies you could have ~10 in your tank.

You could do guppies and tetra though!

Every female livebearer I've ever gotten from the store has either birthed or showed signs of being gravid, within a week of coming home, if they were bought from a store display that had males in it.

If you want females and no babies, you're going to have to deal directly with a breeder who segregates during adolescence.

I've only ever brought home two girls. One gave birth for 5 months after coming home before running out of sperm (I had a male for a week in that tank)

The other one though, despite having males in the tank in the shop (who had jumped the sides and weren't moved back) and having a male in her tank for a week never became pregnant!

So it just depends really.

and yes ok maybe I'll just get a few nice fancy tail guppies (males) and forget about mollies. Maybe add some tetras then. thanks everyone

 

Is it a 20 gallon long or high?
If it is a long you could do something like this:
5x Male Fancy Guppy
8x Neon Tetra
8x Panda Cory
Shrimp and Snails if you want

If it is a high you could do:
5x Male Fancy Guppy
10x Neon Tetra
Shrimp and snails if you want
