I had just finished doing a water change when I noticed that my gravel vacuum has black mold growing in it. I've been using this gravel vacuum for 2 years and its never effected my fish but I also don't know how long its been there. Will it harm my fish?? Should I throw it away?

Hi

Depends on the vac but you might be able to take the tube off the nozzle part and clean it out. I've used a bottle brush and hot water before. Failing that leaving it submerged in really hot water should kill the mould then rinse through.

I’ve tried all of the above … and more . Unsuccessfully. I just bought a new one for £8 and was amazed at how much better it was !

The mold is only inside the airline tubing from what I can see so I won't be able to get at it. Should I just buy a new one?

Maybe it's worth getting a new one. Not overly expensive and you get peace of mind. I would definately try to run piping hot water through in the bath or sumin.
