Mixing rainbows

Hey guys, I had a question about mixing different types of rainbowfish.

Do I need to stick to 6 of each type? Or can I get 4 bosemani, 4 turquoise and 4 splendida?

I'd try to stick with as many of each as possible, though BoesemanI aren't temp compatible with the turquoise, so they shouldn't be together. Splendida may or may not be depending on subspecies.

Have to disagree on not keeping BoesemanI with the others. While they do come from warmer water than the others they are fine with cooler temps.

From Gary Lange, US rainbow expert:
Temperatures - Your bows will live longer and overall be happier and less stressed at lower temps I think. I try to keep them below 78 F and they do fine really down to 70 degrees. Ideally I would keep them at 73-74 if I could regulate them that closely. Still warm enough to keep plants happy and cool enough to have plenty of O2 in the water to keep the bows happy. Remember warmer water carries less O2.

From Colin_T, Aussie rainbow expert:
As a general rule I kept all my adult rainbows at about 24-26C in summer and the temperature dropped to about 16-18C during winter.

I prefer to keep them in the same temps where they are found naturally, since they're best adapted to that.
