My sister has just set up a small tabk ruffly 50 litres I have a fully established 240 litre tank would half filling her tank help cycle it quicker as the bacteria would be in the water? I have already put some filter media in there from my tank but was wondering about the water thanks in advance

Giving her filter media should be enough to cycle the tank but she will have to keep adding a source of ammonia (fish food will work) to the tank to keep the BB in the filter medial alive until there's fish in it.

I see cuz it's high on nitrates and nitrites not to bad according to the test strips it's the nitrites that are slightly high this is why I was wondering if half filling it with water from my tank would help

The BB isn't really in the water so much as on stuff. If you have a rock or chunk of wood or even a plant or two you can pop in there that would definitely help.

Bacteria doesn't live in the water. The seeded media should be a good jump start for her tank. Just be sure she feeds the bacteria with either her fish, fish food or pure ammonia.

If you do in fact have high nitrites in your tank then I am afraid your tank isn't actually cycled. A fully cycled tank will have no ammonia, no nitrites and some nitrates

The beneficial bacteria you would need to jump-start her tank's cycle does not live in the water, it lives on the filter media, and on the surfaces (substrate, ornaments, etc). The highest concentration of that bacteria lives on the filter media, though.

What you can do is take the filter media out of her filter and *add* it to your filter. DO NOT remove your own filter media. Let it run for a week or 2, then put her filter media back into her filter, and viola, instantly cycled tank. If you can't do that, stealing some of the gravel from your tank, or some of your tank's ornaments, will help jump-start the cycle, but won't provide an instant cycle like seeding her filter media would.

So I need to basically put her filter in my tank but I can't do that cuz it's a really stupid design and would not go into my tank withkut falling apart she has used filter start as well when she set up initially

Also I have to change my media in 2 weeks so I did one block early as I have a block system with multiple filter blocks so doing one early won't be a problem

No, I am not saying to put her filter in your tank. I am saying to take the filter cartridge out of her filter and put it inside your filter, so your filter would have 2 cartridges in it.

It's completely different she has a massive thing of carbon which juts slot in but would go all over the place in mine and mines a tower with blocks in
