Just curious if this is a Midas or a Red Devil. I don't really know how to properly tell them apart so if there are any experts out there in the amphilopous (?) Family please help me out.

Also is that enough of a hump on its head to confirm it as a male? Its about 8 or 81/2 inches.

Solution
Yes the one in the pictures is somewhere between 8 and 9". I held a measuring tape to the glass and tried to measure it lol. I think I would prefer a female anyway, they stay smaller. I'm not sure about temperament though.

IMO, looks more like a Red Devil. It's snout is more elongated & is more streamlined than a Midas.
Most cichlids advertised as Red Devils have been crossbred w/ Midas & are referred to as Midevils.
I can't determine the gender.

Thank you. I was thinking about buying it just have to organize and see if I can make a legitimate spot for him/her in my room. At almost 9" it is crazy mellow for a red devil. But who knows i could take it home and it just turns into a monster lol.

If the pictured RD is already nine inches, my guess is it's a female. Pretty fish.
