Mexican Dwarf Crayfish in a dirted tank

smuljawhn

I've been contemplating about adding a Mexican dwarf crayfish in my 5.5 gallon planted tank. I've heard that they burrow frequently, has anyone had any experience keeping them in a dirted tank?

I fully expect that to end in disaster. They will burrow, and they burrow deep IME. Dirted tanks are risky as it is - a CPO will almost ensure a muddy mess.

If you do a dirted tank I would just go with shrimp. The craws will dig a lot even if you cap it. Shrimp love durted tanks especially with lots of plants. And it looks great
