Methylene Blue, Water Is Cloudy?

I needed to treat my entire 29g. I've been doing this for a few days now. I did a water change late last night/early this morning and added the methylene blue as I normally would but this time around my water has gone cloudy in less than 6 hours. What's going on? This hasn't happened before since I started the treatment. The only reason I've even been changing the water is because I worry about water quality with lack of bacteria to deal with ammonia.

Hello
Some treatments will make water colored or either cloudy so it will go away on there own..

This seems abnormal though. I've done this about 2 times now and the water always stayed clear. I just wasn't sure if I did something wrong somehow. It seems to be getting worse, not better. I'm using floss as a filter for now. Maybe I should change it with fresh floss?

I am unsure of the reason for the cloudy water, but I personally advise against using this product in the tank unless you don't mind the decorations, substrate, equipment, and the silicone on the tank becoming a tinted blue color.

Sounds like you might have killed your filter bacteria. Meth Blue will do that if you add too much.

I don't mind which is why I did it. I also don't have a spare tank anyway. Plus I kinda like the blue color on stuff.

I removed my biological filter before I did the first treatment. Whatever bacteria was in the substrate would've died the first go around I assume? This is round 3. I dosed according to the bottle.

I may just do a heavy water change and not dose again.

The water in your tank might be cloudy due to dirt, sand, fish waste, particles, plant matter, and uneaten food floating around. Moreover, the particles might be way too small for your filter to catch. The stuff making your aquarium water cloudy can’t even be detected or stopped by the filter.

Try the information here:

Build a DIY Water Polisher here. I built this and it works great in large tanks.

If all the above does not work… this will:

Only use 1 drop per gallon, not the 2-4 drops recommended to start. Your water will get cloudy for about an hour or so and then start to clear. Make sure you have fine filter floss in your filter. If you need another dose 24-48 hours later, fine. Guaranteed this works wonders.

Keep your tank crystal clear?

Green water? Get a (13 watt) and set it to the lowest flow rate so the water stays in contact with the light the longest. Will clear in about 7 days then remove it.
