HI all,my friend gave me his live sand since he stopped with the hobby....and coincidently I found that in the live sand there are very tinny metal particles! these were found cause my glass cleaner magnet fell in the bucket and when I picked it there were tiny black particles with it!.....should I remove the sand that I already put in the refugium?

thanks

If in doubt, get rid of it and start with fresh sand.

Those particles are not metal, but iron-containing minerals, which are a component of natural sand. It should be fine. If you're really worried, you could go about removing the grains by pouring the sand over a magnet in the tank. (Or stirring the sand with a magnet)

You too

The beach sand in my area contains tons of these minerals. I could fill a water bottle with the particles if I sit at the beach for a half hour with a magnet.
