"mentions" Still Not Working Consistently

I will start by saying it has been a known issue for a long time that when we are "mentioned" for some reason we do not always get the alert that we have been mentioned.

BUT, I have recently learned that it happens more than I realized...

I have had the app for a long time, but I always had notifications off. And I never bothered to look at the notifications on the app because I prefer the website, so I always check my alerts there. I only use the app for photos. But recently, I turned on the notifications for the fishlore app, so that my phone is notifies me anytime I get an alert on fishlore. After doing that, I am finding more and more times that I have been mentioned and alerted to it on the app, but not the desktop site.

So two things I want to close this post with:

First: Mike is this an issue that can be corrected? or do we just need to continue to live with it? I am assuming it is what it is.....since it has been an issue for so long. And its no big deal. Just wondering if you even knew it was still happening.

Second: since this is an issue, I want to formally apologize to anyone who has mentioned me and not gotten a response. It was not intentional!!

I do know that if someone were to edit their post and put a mention on a member, they will not receive alerts.

But that's the thing. The alerts for mentions ARE happening on the app. They just aren't happening on the desktop site. (well sometimes they are, just not always)

Wow, I had no idea I could get alerts through the app, totally going to be turning those on! Thanks for that info. I knew the alerts were kind of finicky, I don't think many people mention me though lol.

Edit: I don't even get notifications through the app, all my notifications are and have been on for it

 

We're all mentioning you for over a month now. You never react hahahahaha

I'm in the planning stages for upgrading to the next version of xenforo (the forum software) and an upgraded server move soon. Hopefully they have resolved the mention issues in the next version. I do know there is a somewhat confusing hierarchy for the mentions with new posts/likes/mentions where you will get notified for one but not the other (for the same thread) and that is by design by the xenforo devs.

 

Would quoting rather than mentioning (in the same thread) be a work-a-round? Not ideal but it's worth a try.

I get notifications when people mention me in the same thread that I have already posted on. I think it's more of an issue when we're trying to mention them in a thread they haven't seen

Not me. I have gotten ones in threads I wasn't involved in. And I have NOT gotten ones on threads I was involved in. For me it has been completely random.

Hmm, I don't think anyone really mentions me in threads I don't get notifications for. So you probably have the main issue that most are having. stella1979 has issues with all of her watched threads, not just mentions I believe

 

Oh, it's completely random for me too. I sometimes miss a mention, (a tag), though I think it's rare. Also, I get some, probably most alerts, just not all. It's COMPLETELY random because I can get alerts for a thread one day, then not the next, then get alerts for that thread the next time someone posts. I try to keep a handle on things I may have missed by clicking 'Watched Threads' at the top, and that seems to list all threads I am active in but haven't checked in on. So... it works, but lately, I've been getting tons of alerts, have been trying to get to them all and failing, and just haven't had time to check out those I may have missed getting alerts for. It does get aggravating, but that's because I love this place, am more than a little addicted to Fishlore, I love to help, and in the end, if I have time, it's all manageable.

Thanks, Mike for making this great place to 'meet' like-minded folk, make true friends, offer and receive help and guidance in the good times and the bad. I've checked out a few other forums, but Fishlore is my fishy home.

Like Biz, I am truly sorry for anyone who may have felt ignored by me because of this issue. I only use the desktop site, mostly because I'm wordy, not that old but old-school, and just don't type well on a screen!
