I have to post this review because of how awesome this place is. If you live near the Baltimore area, check out the store House of Tropicals. From where I live, it's quite a drive but now it's the only place that my dad and I will really ever buy fish from. The arrangement of fish is amazing. Last time I went, they had imported flowerhorns, small payara, shell dweller cichlids, salminus brasiliensis, fancy male guppies(lyretails, cobra forms, etc.), shovelnose/red tail hybrids, koi, pacu, etc, etc, etc. For saltwater, they had seahorses, shark eggs, banded cat sharks, lionfish, zebrasoma gemmatus(!), some designer clownfish, mantis shrimp, harlequin shrimp, and tons more. They have the classic pet store veiltail bettas, but they also sell much more interesting betas. By interesting, I mean extremely good wuality breeder males. They had pure dark knight male bettas, koi halfmoons and veiltales, dragon scale plakats(they were turquoise, Cambodian, etc.), royal/steel blue bettas, etc etc etc. They have the biggest range of filters, substrate, and aquarium equipment in general. They even had indian almond leaves and blackwater solution! Anyone near the Baltimore area should really try going here sometime, it's amazing!

Bruh, this place is THE place to go. I live in Pasadena and this is the only place I go for anything fish related. The people are awesome and usually have good accurate info, if they don't someone is there that does. The employees don't just work there, they experience the hobby with us and it makes the visit infinitely more worth it. The owner is helpful and personable as well and that makes the difference in how the business is run compared to places like PetSmart and Petco and the staff that ends up being hired. The selection (on everything!) is unreal and ever changing with new and exciting creatures, look no further Maryland! This is one local fish store you'll want to visit, and you will not be sorry.

Exactly! Best place, in my opinion. They know their stuff solid and the range of fish they have, both fresh and salt water, practically tops any other store I've seen. JardinI arowana? Golden amazon dorado fish? Imported flowerhorns? Shell dwellers? They got them all!

Have you seen the pair of sharks they have recently? Crazy to me how they even stock and sell that stuff much less the tanks they require. I'm pretty sure they even the shark eggs you mentioned in stock right now. I'll probably be stopping in tomorrow on my day off, sometimes I go just to look around.

Yeah, I want to visit so bad but I don't have time...I'm crazy obssessed with the flowerhorns, I qant one so bad but don't have a spare 40 gal. and 75 gal. on me right now...I could trt to keep him in a small diy pond but the cost of a $250 fish is pretty steep...

Agreed. But when you can start getting things together rest assured HoT will have a flowerhorn for you.

I don't think so unfortunately. It's a privately owned pet store so I doubt they have any way or ordering or shipping. Try calling them and ask though! You never know.

Ok, just stopped by today and got some sparkling gouramis for a nano tank and they had some badis badis, green spot puffer, and an asian marbled and jde sleeper goby. I almost impulse bought both until one of the employees told me that they grew to 2 feet long...They also had a wide range of apistos and a good selection of plants. Just a little update that I thought I’d give

I love this place, except honestly the sharks. It makes me sad to see them in that tiny tank. They've been there a few weeks now.

Other than the occasional "I doubt this will ever go to a mildly appropriate home" fish or invertebrate, I love it. It's where I get all my plants. I have gotten huge swords and bunches of java for cheap. I paid $10 for giant anubias coffeefolia that I split into three large plants.

They have a huge selection of fish and shrimp. It's so tempting. I couldn't find badis last time I was there but I have been keeping a lookout.

Man that sounds nice I'll have to go up there soon and check it out. Other than petsmart and petco the only actual good fish store I know of around me is That Fish Place up in Pennsylvania and it's a bit of a drive

Trust me, it’s worth it. They hd a whole tank stocked with a ton of badis, they were all 1.5-2 inches with the males even had some hints of blue on their fins. Everytime I go there I always find something new, and I always add somethig else to my wishlist too

I went there today and got some new plants. They have a great selection, but be wary of hitchhikers! I see pest snails in their plant tanks. Pretty sure that's where the limpets and damselfly larvae came from. Today I got a free gift with my golden anubias: a zebra nerite. This wouldn't at all stop me from buying from them, but a reminder that it's important to wash plants and check bags before throwing them out.
