Maybe A Silly Question.... Plant Mesh? Question

This might be a silly question, but am I supposed to keep mesh on a moss-like plant forever?

I purchased a clump of sußwassertang that came clamped between two pieces of metal "mesh" with fairly wide spaced bars. The plant is slowly growing out of the squares and looking healthy.

Here's the part I don't know: am I supposed to keep it in the mesh forever? Or is the mesh there to guide it and I should remove it once the plant has been able to take hold? I have the entire little deal tied onto 2 cholla logs. (It's like a really funny looking little green raft in my tank, hah.)

You can remove when you want, the mesh is just to hold it together during shipping. Also, plants without roots like moss and pellia grow faster once they take hold onto something.
Remove the mesh and tie it to the wood with fishing line or sewing thread.
