So was getting sick of the cheap £10 unfiltered tank that my Betta fish was in. Seen the Marina 360 on Amazon and thought why not.

Current setup
Marina 360 tank £36
Marina 25w heater £10
Sand £5
Rock and plants £30

Fish seems happy!

What do you all think of the decor? Any alterations?

I know betta’s do better in a 5Gal. I would take out a couple rocks so there is more swimming room. It also looks like your boy has fin rot. Also he needs more things to entertain him.

Yeh, I'd remove 2 to 3 rocks to provide him abit more swimming space

Does he really have fin rot? Not noticed much difference with his fins. But it’s kind of hard to tell with his colour.

He is eating and acting normal. Please let me know if you think it really is fin rot I will treat his tank.

Well it’s most likely fin biting because of the life your giving him (no offense) the better picture helped because I can see where it’s been bitten. To stop it here’s my advice. Return that tank and get a 5 gallon tank, get BRIGHT silk plants and a floating plant, and some snails.

I’m sorry but I have to disagree with you on the tank size. This tank is over 2.5g with the stated minimum being generally accepted as 2.5g.

I really don’t see how a single fish of about 2.5” needs a tank of 5g. Please keep in mind that the tank shape really magnifies the betta’s size.

I think his fin is likely from getting caught on a plastic plant and not from biting although I wouldn’t rule it out fully.

I agree that he needs silk plants but why BRIGHT ones?

I’ve had lots of bad luck with Betta’s over the years. And it’s usually been when keeping them in large tanks 10 gallon +

Look at the below and tell me if you really think he does not have enough swimming room?

Okay I’ve kept my fare share of betta’s (around 20) and the ones I had in 5 gallon tanks lived the longest happiest life. The reason I say BRIGHT is because betta’s (and most fish) find brighter colors more Intriguing then normal colors. You can keep him in that tank that’s up to you but IMO he should have a 5 gallon. No matter what size tank he will need entertainment so you can put him near a T.V or put a mirror on his tank for 2 hours a day, or move the plants and decor around everyday, or get him a snail, or something to swim through, or all of those things. IMO betta’s can be a little tricky to keep since they need constant entertainment and the argument on what size tank they should get. Putting a 2.5” fish in a 2.5 gallon tank is like the inch per gallon rule (not correct way to stock a tank) so that would be like putting 10 zebra danios in a 10 gallon tank -_-

You could give him a ping pong ball to push around!! I think his tank size is fine, he can swim in circles without having to turn around!! The other thing would recommend is an anubias plant.. they love to lay on the leaves!!! I personally don't think the color of the plants matter, as most fish like alive plants and they are usually not neon colored!!!

Okay, look, there's absolutely nothing wrong with putting a betta in a 2.5 gallon tank, it's just the minimum size.
I don't have my bettas in anything smaller than a five gallon tank, only because they need the room.
Your betta was most likely suffering in the unfiltered unheated bowl that he was in, and has fin damage.

Those plastic plants are the roughest types that I know of, and I have had those before, they are very course!
If you cannot do live plants, then at least do soft plastic plants or better, silk decorations, they are much better for bettas and their delicate fins.
I also think those rocks are taking up space for him to swim, I think he'd enjoy more plants and fewer rocks.

Here, look at my betta tank to get an idea of what a proper betta tank should look like.

I actually have an updated picture, there are more live plants in the tank, and fake ones removed.

I think your betta has fin damage from the rough plants, so please remove them as soon as you can.
You can do daily water changes and keep the temperature at 79 - 82 to help his fins grow back.
Sorry, but we just want the best for you and your betta.

Edit:
Your decorations are making the tank look like it was meant for cichlids, not the betta.
