Manzanita wood not water logging

A while back I bought a large piece of manzanita wood for my aquarium however it would go down and instead floated on the surface of my aquarium and blotted out all the light as time went on I noticed it was killing my plants so I took it out and placed it in a bucket with water in it tried to water log it that way but it's been sitting in the bucket for 5 months and yet it still isn't water logged any ideas

 

You might try anchoring the wood down inside the tank with a rock.
My Manzanita took about a week before it finally sank.

 

Or attach a plastic bag full of smaller rocks if you don't have heavy rocks available.

5 months seems like a long time! I purchased 4 large pieces and put them in a tote bin (the kind with the snap-lock lid) I just used the pressure of the lid to hold them in place- they were Manzanita & all sank in about 1 month. Do you have a photo?

 

Or boil it. It should speed up the process.

 

I like to push down the wood and flip it over to see if one part is floatier than the rest and drill a few small holes.

 

Make sure it's completely submerged in the bucket. If you allow it to float with some part above water, it will take longer.

I had a large piece of driftwood that still floated after 2 years of being held underwater. Never understood that one. But, yeah, 5 months seems long.
