Male platy harassing female, should I separate?

I have 1 Platy female and 1 platy Male. The Male wont stop harassing the female wont even let her eat sometimes. It seems like she is always hiding to too. Should I just place the Male in a different tank? This is Also my first time having platy fish

 

How big is the tank? Have room for a couple more females? Then he has more to harass so he has to split his time

 

The pet store people said a 5 gallon tank would be enough for two and I randomly picked them out

 

Well, a couple more females woukd be the best way to get him to stop harrassing her so much. Too much for a 5 gallon though. I would try a 10 gal, if nothing else, being platies, you're gonna have babies too, sooner than later!

Or you could swap one so you have only males or only females - female only makes for a fairly calm tank if that's what you're looking for
