Male Guppy Tail Changes Colors?

A male guppy tail that changes colors? When I first got my male in April, something had nipped at his tail for some time. There was barely anything left. I felt so bad for him which is why he was chosen. His tail is growing back and he is a beautiful yellow color. He recently started getting some black along the top. However, sometimes it is a bold dark black and other times it looks gray and almost translucent. Has anyone else ever seen anything like this?

Hopefully it isn't fin rot.

I really don’t think it is. I’ve been watching him for a few days now. He’s healthy, eating like he should and annoying my female to death.

U should have 2-3 females with him as to not stress out the one that's in there

I had two adult females. I lost one about a month ago. I also have 14 guppy fry. When they get older, I will have plenty of females.

he might have the jumping genetics of certain betta fish. It is never a good idea to promote incest in an aquarium.

What is “jumping genetics”. I do not believe my male is the father of the fry, although I could be wrong. They were born not long after I got the female, less then the normal gestation period for a guppy.

OP's fish is a guppy though, not a betta.

I know that is why I said it is only present in bettas

Could be a stress reaction... also lighting differences in different parts of the tank,
