Sorry to bother you guys again, but i did salt water treatment to treat fungus and everything was good. Betta was healthy and happy again. I added more plants like amazon sword, floating lettuce,.. But now today suddenly i noticed his fins are sticked, now i don't understand what is the problem. I am gonna check water again in a while and post here.

Water parameters are normal.. also attaching anotjer picture 2 days before after he was treated and doing fine.

Hello guys, my male betta had fungus issue 2 recently and i treated with salt water for about 4 times and he was recovered so i stopped. He was doing perfectly okay, and today suddenly i noticed his fins are all sticked. I dont know what's happening. I have 5 gallon planted tank, filter heater. Can someone help.

I also tested water, and all the parameters are normal. What could be possible reason and what should i do.

From a few days before after jhe was treated with salt water for fungus and he was doing perfectly okay.

Clamped fins are usually a sign of stress in bettas, it could possibly be from the salt treatment or water quality.

How much salt did you use and how did you dose it (ie. dissolved or just put directly into the tank)? When you say you used it 4 times, does that mean you did 4 WCs and added salt each time? If so, how much? How long did the salt treatment last?

Salt treatment lasted about a week and we started with 1tbsp per 5 gallon but fungus wasn't improving much so we added 1tbsp for 50% WC and we did that 4 times. Aftet a week, we stopped the salt treatment and did 50% wc with unsalted water. And did not do anything after because betta was doing good. So tank is at half tbsp concentration right now. I was justa bout to do salt water treatement adding same tbsp of salt in 50% wc and all the times we dissolved salt in water and then added it.

I am gonna wait for your reply before i do salt water treatment again..

I would advise against using salt unless there's a clear bacterial/parasitic/fungal infection present on the outside of his body. Also, your plants won't be happy about another round of salt, and salt doesn't help with stress.

I was going to suggest that if you had too high of a concentration that could have caused stress/his clamped fins, however the concentration, duration and method you used for treatment all seem fine to me. The concentration you used is low, I've treated my betta at a 2 tbsp per 5 gallon concentration before with no ill effects so I'm not sure what could have caused his clamped fins. Hopefully someone else could share some insight into the situation because I'm stumped.

Ya, because even the water parameters are perfect. Actually, i could figure out the reason that possible it could be the water temperature fluctuation. I had cobalt heater set at 78° but suddenly i observed that it had reached 94° and i guess by the time i noticed, it was pretty much a few hours. And i immediately tried to fix issue and managed to bring temp at 76°. This happened like 6-7 days before. Betta was doing fine, but i ordered new heater beacuse i did not want any further issues. But i am wondering because this happened week before, and suddenly how his fins got clamped today. Also, we notice in stores betta is kept in small bowl with nothing in it, still survives. Then inspite of us caring and having all, why am i seeing issues every other week. I cannot understand what are the problems.

Can anyone please advice what should i do..

Should i just do 20% wc every 2 days now and add stress guard? Will that help?

I apologize for the late reply, how is he doing?

The temperature fluctuation likely caused a great deal of stress on his system and any attempts to quickly lower the temp could have also added to that. The most important thing I've found is keeping conditions (whether that's parameters, temp etc) consistency. Imo frequent WCs are the best thing you can do to help him feel better right now. It wouldn't hurt to add stress guard, but as far as I'm aware those products basically just protect the fish's slime coat and encourage its production.

No problems.. i started salt water treatment.. started with one tbsp per 5 gallon and did 50% wc every 2 days with another 1tbsp.. did twice so far and he's doing well.. might do one more today and then continue with regular 20% WC without salt every 4 days..

API Stress coat

IAL leaves

Less noise

Less light

This is probably a result of the temp fluctuations.
I would actually say try to do a little less on the water changes, they are more likely to stress your betta.

Oh okay, so i would do one salt water change today and then continue 50% WC weekly without salt. Not doing any medication as he is doing quite well with salt water treatment so don't wanna stress with any medicine..

Hey, wanted your advice on how frequently should WC be done in betta tank on normal basis? I am doing 50% weekly.. is that okay?

And also if i d salt water treatment anytime, what should be frequency of salt water changes. Please let me know these two things whenever you get time..

thanks for ur help

I'm glad to hear he is doing better, but I would discontinue the salt treatment because it's unnecessary.

I think that's a good schedule. I also do 50% weekly as well, but if I have time I'll sometimes do 2 WCs per week. I try to do my WCs quickly but with as little disturbance to the water as possible so I can to minimize any stress.

It depends on severity of what you're treating, but in the future if you're using salt to treat an infection I would do 50% WC every 2-3 days or so.
