Male Betta and Platys and Swordtails

I probably have read this somewhere, but are they compatable? At the store where I got the galaxies, I saw a beautiful yellow betta and want to put it in the 10 gallon with the otos, platy, swordtail, and coolie loach. I think the swordtail might be a problem but I am just drawing a blank right now.

A betta could share a tank with Ottos, but not the platys or swordtail. Along with the Ottos you could have an african dwarf frog or two for a varied tank

they might get along but most likely at some point, your betta will nip some fins on the livebearers. :-\

Then I will move the livebearers to another tank and get the betta. He is very beautiful.

I ended up putting the galaxy rasboras in the 10 gallon, I also had to move the livebearers out. I had to give up the chance on the yellow betta unless it can do well in one of my other tanks.

Even though I only have 1 rasbora, it seems to be doing great.

I have a betta in my livebearer tank. He is in there with mollies and platties, a guppy, corys and otos!

How long have you had that setup, Theesig? I'd love to have my betta share with other fish but I am too worried about things going potentially wrong.

The betta has been in there about a month or so... so far, so good. His temperment is the same, he comes to the glass plays and says hello, his colors are bright, his fins are still lovely and intact... so I hope it all stays that way.

Wow, I hope so too! That sounds really great. Do they buddy up at all? Or pretty much keeping a polite distance?

Its funny, they all just kinda swim all over... no one other that 2 MM platies and the corys are together at any one time. At feeding, no-one is aggressive either. They just kinda wait their turn if its a pellet or a wafer, and there is always enough flake for everyone. So, maybe its a fluke, but I aint complaining. If it gets to be a problem, Ill move him out to a 6g.

wow, you're really lucky. I hope it lasts. But as a lot of people say: each betta is different. You could be really lucky and have yourself a very sociable one, or at least one that's not crazy territorial.
