Male Betta Aggression Level

Hello all,

I currently have a male betta fish in a 6 gal cube and to test his compatibility with other creatures I added 3 ghost shrimp the other day... unfortunately he did not let them live.
This doesn't bode well for what I had been hoping to do with him, which was to move him into a ten gal long tank with 7 ember tetras. But maybe he could have a different response to fish than he did with shrimp?
I know it basically comes down to individual temperament; but does anyone here have experience with betta fish having different responses to shrimp as they do with other fish? Does his response to shrimp mean that he needs his own space completely, or that he just doesn't like shrimp?
Other notes are that he didn't eat the shrimp and he didn't flare at them either. He was just very curious when I introduced them and when I awoke the next day he had killed two.

Thanks!

For the safety of other critters, i would keep him by himself.

Agree with not keeping him with tankmates but I just wanted to comment that if you do try again with a different betta, the tankmates need to be there first they shouldn't be introduced later so that the betta doesn't take it as an invasion of territory

If he did the shrimp in, it is very likley he will kill any other tank mates. You could try a mystery or nerite snail. Otherwise he will be quite happy alone. Very handsome boy.

Isn't he great?! I think I will still try a mystery snail and then just let him enjoy his space.

All of my males get along with the snails. Good luck!

I think you’ve ended up buying a psychopath. Happens randomly with bettas. Some individuals are more peaceful/aggressive than others.
