Male And Female Betta Together?

Can I put a male betta and a female betta together and expect them not to fight? My intention is not to breed them. I know someone who does this and that person said they don't fight.

Generally no. I've done it in a 125 before but both bettas were very docile, kept to their territories and the tank was heavily planted. If your tank is large enough and has enough hiding spaces you could try it but monitor them heavily and be prepared to separate them at the first sight of aggression.

No. Horrible idea. Its tricky enough to breed them. Much less have them together for the long term. You will have injured bettas very quickly.

it can be done but is way more risky then it would be to have them with other fish. you will need a extremely large tank with lots of sight barriers and luck. I wouldnt do it

If you have a large enough tank with tons and tons of hiding structures and plants I'd say it would be ok... not an ideal yes, but doable. If you know somebody who has done it successfully, under the right conditions it can be done. It's up to you though to make those conditions met and be ready to deal with the chance that it does not work out. Make sure to have an extra tank set up and ready if a fish needs rescuing.

As has been mentioned, it can be done. Though it likely won't be successful with just one female; you'd need a harem and a very long tank in order to even consider it. At least 5 females in a 6 foot tank so heavily planted you can't see into it. And even then there is just as much a chance of the fish killing each other as there is of the setup working.
