Yes it does. It is used in forensics, as a dye, microbe stain and also, interestingly, as an anhydrous powder, it is occasionally used to catch thieves! It's sprinkled on paper money and, reacting with moisture on the thieves hands, stains them green!

It will turn it green. It can stain clear silicone and ornaments. And it will kill your beneficial bacteria.

I did not know that!

I've used Kordon Rapid Cure and have not experienced silicone staining. Maybe it's because it's not purely malachite green, but other ingredients as well. I can say for certain that it hasn't affected my cycle at all.

Interesting. I use to use it in the past, and it killed it every time. Mine was a mardel product called....maracide. it contains Analine green, which I believe is the same thing. But...I still have an old bottle kicking around...don't ask me why, but it also contains hydroxymethyl, aminomethane, dibromohydroxymercurifluorescein... which I admit to having no clues what all those are. But back when I use to use it, I was told it was the aniline green in it that kills the cycle. Perhaps it's not. Now I have to google....

EDIT:
scarface, well that was about as good as nothing. Some say yes, a few say no. So, all I can say is that this maracide product did this to me. And it definitely stained everything green. So, maybe it's a "use it at your own risk" type of thing, or use in a quarantine tank at the very least, if at all possible.

Yeah, I like to quarantine but not everyone does.

I use An Eiho product called AntI white spot. Do I need a QT tank for the cardinals with ick? I put it into my main tank. I have 3 congo tetras, 11 cardinals, an angelfish, 7 corydoras and 3 nerite snails.
For ich, I would do the heat treatment in the main tank.

It has to be a concentration difference between products then. Another thing for me when using Kordon Rapid Cure was that the water would stain for only a few seconds and then clear up. And no, I wasn't using carbon in my filter or anything similar.

I mean the medication. I already did the heat treatment for a week but no result, some died and the rest still have so bought meds, and I put the meds into the main tank.

Yes, you ways treat in the main tank. I would remove the nerites and other invertebrates that you value, before dosing. I've watched my "pest" snails literally dissolve before my eyes when using this stuff.

scarface the OP seems to have corys, it seems to me this stuff isn't great for them either, do you know?

dibromohydroxymercurifluorescein is an antiseptic that will kill bacteria.

Working in a fish store, I’ve used Ick medication on everything including Shrimp and snails, never had a problem.

I've never owned cories, but I've read about people using it on them as well as other "sensitive" fish with no problems; but I can not comment on it personally in regards to the two together. I have, however, used it on an otocinclus (considered sensitive and scaleless) infected with ich, and it appeared fine the entire week I had dosed the tank a couple years ago. In fact, none of my fish appeared particularly affected by the medication.

Perhaps a bit off topic, but I know people say scaleless fish are more sensitive to medication and salt, but I'm not really convinced of that. I don't think it's as simple as scaleless=more sensitive. I'll admit that my presumption has more to do with my experiences as a fisherman than a fishkeeper, and my realization that a lot of the ideas and common myths in this hobby are really just that, ideas and opinions that have little basis on actual scientific evidence or findings.

I know I always thought certain scaleless fish were more sensitive simply because of the warnings on some medication labels not to use products on them.

Maybe he's the guilty party then. Or maybe it's a duo, or trio. Maybe what one doesn't kill, the other does. But do you want to know what the really sad part is? I don't think I saved one fish using this stuff. I never did have much success with medications. I think I would have made a lousy doctor! Lol.

Thanks for the info!

I'm just saying that some scaleless fish are, and some are not sensitive. Just like some fish with scales are sensitive than others. I simply find it silly when people equate scaleless to mean sensitive. I don't believe that's true.

I do know that scaleless fish, in general, and corydoras especially, are more sensitive to salt than other fresh water fish. It has something to do with diffusion, osmotic pressure and a lack of the protection that scales provide when exposed to salt concentrations in water.
