Making underwater river and total rescape!

Had this tank for a 2 years and gone through a few rescapes. Now trying to make underwater river. Just took glass and silicone put cheap bubbler between the two pieces of glass. Doesn’t look bad by any means. Would definitely go with stronger flow and longer piece but here is the end result!

I was ready to ask what an underwater river was because I couldn't tell by the photos. Then your video showed it. Way cool! I like.

Its a little hard to tell, I definitely want to try to up the scale on it one day and make it curve in and out, definitely potential though!

That is really cool. How long is the distance the bubbles travel currently?

I cut it to be 2 x 8. The bubbles travel all the way through it

I did try and up the scale on it while I was home from college for the weekend. It had a curve in it and was way bigger. Took two bubblers same process as before but the bubbles ended up forming and just creating one big bubble halfway through. I think it’s possible for sure to create it though but need more than a weekend to do it. I was thinking something like putting in barriers to keep the bubbles separated as they travel along the glass if that makes sense lol. Will for sure get it though!

Sounds like you're taking it to the next level haha I'd be happy with something like you made in the original post. What was the basic process? Like what type of glass did you use and where did you get it? Did you just silicone the bubbler onto one end of glass and then seal all the way around?

Used a glass cutter to cut out a 2x8 piece of glass, then I cut out two more pieces of glass so it can lay flat but be elevated. If that makes sense. Then I siliconed the two pieces to the 2x8. For the bubbler I used the standard cheap roundish one but I’m sure and bubbler would work as long as it fits underneath it, I didn’t have to use silicone on it either, just laid it between the glass and substrate. As for the tubing that comes up, I buried it in a light layer of gravel until my plants were able to hide the rest of it coming up. Here’s a pic if that helps!

And for the glass I’m not sure what kind I got, I think most are fine for this project, I got it at Home Depot

That makes total sense now. I don't have a good way to cut glass but I do have quite a bit of plexiglass around. Do you think it would work or do you think you'd be able to see it more than regular glass? I live in a small town so finding someone to cut the glass for me might be tough.

I’m sure plexi would work. You can buy your own tool that cuts glass(that’s what I did) they’re very cheap you can get one under 5-10 bucks. If you have extra plexi I’d say give it a go and if you’re satisfied then that works for you! Otherwise give glass a try

I didn't realize it was that easy to cut glass haha I'm going to give the plexiglass a go first very soon. I have a couple of ideas to create the "bank" of the river that I'm excited about. If the plexi doesn't work then I'll get a decent glass cutting tool since I do have a couple pieces of glass around as well.
