Making dog food

I was going through the freezer the other night, and found a little tub of chicken livers. No one is ever going to eat them, so I might as well do something useful with them.

In addition to the livers (about 2 cups is my guess. The tub is sealed), I plan on some ground beef and chicken (probably breast meat). That should do it on the meat.

For veggies/fruit, I was thinking green beans (del monte is bogo and there's a 55 cents off 4 coupon), canned pumpkin, and...? What else? Birdseye frozen veggies are 50% off, so throw some ideas my way! And what, if any, fruits. I was thinking some bananas, but one of the dogs doesn't like them...

What else should I add?

Now how about making it crunchy? I loves me a challenge >:3

Note: this is not intended to be their main diet for however long it lasts. Just something fun to mix into their food.

You could also make the chicken livers into dog treats. The dog treat cookbook that I have has two recipes for baked dog treats. You could look online for a recipe.
Or you could go with your original idea and mix them into their food.
I know my dogs like beef liver and kidney but only as a treat.

When the whole dog food scare came out years ago, I started making my own dog food:

Crockpot (2-3 Days to cook though)

1 Whole Chicken (bones included, becomes mush)
Brown Rice
Broccoli
Kelp
Sweet Potato
Carrots
Flaxseed
Fish Oil

I have made dog biscuits out of livers and gizzards that I had from butchering chickens. My dogs liked these a lot better than the peanut butter ones I tried. You made a slurry from the livers and gizzards and then added whole wheat flour. I think that might have been all, though there might have been egg, I can't remember (it is on my blog somewhere).

They have more than enough treats LOL The biggest box of milk bones you can buy, several pouches of sweet potato and duck jerky chews, a normal sized box of those "healthy" milk bones, and a pouch of chewy milk bones. These brats don't need any more treats XD

Sweet potatoes! That's what I wanted I add. BroccolI tends to make them farty. Lol I'll keep it in mind, though. We do have a bag of cauliflower, peas, corn and carrots in the freezer. There's not much corn in it, so I don't think it would hurt too much...

Sounds like my dogs. We spend more on treats than anything. If it was me I wouldn't add a whole ton of vegetables. I just don't think it is very natural for dogs to eat so many vegetables, though I would add rice and a few vegetables. I believe cauliflower would have the same affect as broccoli.
