With my first tank, I literally just got a piece of like plexiglass from the craft store, cut it to fit my tank, and used that. Wasn't the fanciest lid or hood, but it was cheap and worked to stop evaporation.

So you need some 1x2 to make a 12x24 frame that will sit on top of the tank. Then 2x8" to frame around that. Go flush with the tank plastic upper lip so you dont see it. Then some acrylic to go across the top in two parts so you have a lid and a piece that the light will rest on. Drill a hole for your finger to lift it and paint the wood frame black with plastidip

How did u cut the plexiglass?
