Magnetic Cleaner

Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any opinion/experience with magnetic cleaners. (The Magfloat is what I was looking at) Thanks in advance.

Love them. Can't remember not having one in my tanks. But I've never used one in an acrylic tank (all my experience is with glass). Keep them out of the sand/don't trap gravel or you can scratch the glass.

Thanks! Do you leave it in the tank when not using or take it out every time?

I do not like the magfloat. The cleaner side is to stiff to wipe the glass. Maybe they have redesigned it or something, but the magfloat I have takes 2 to 3 cross passes just to clear mild films. Maybe if you had some tough marine algae, but not the regular light film on glass. Very disappointed with it.
It does float, which is nice.

My experience is mixed. I have a bowfront acrylic tank and the acrylic mag float does an ok job. it doesn't do as well on the bowfront though because of the curve of the glass. You have to really scrub to get anything off and it can be a pain. Does great on the sides.

I leave it in, over on the far side out of my main viewing areas. can get algae growing on it but easy enough for you (or a nerite snail) to clean off. I do have to do circular (buffing?) sorts of passes to do the best job but I would expect that to be true whatever the tool used. On my bow front it really only works in the up/down orientation due to the curve of the glass but still find it effective.
