mac all the way. ive had windows but then we got a new mac, and now I could never go back. we now have 4 macs, and I wouldnt ever use windows again. its so much simpler, and there aren't viruses or spyware programed for macs so u don't hav to worry about virus scans and adaware and that stuff. mac all the way!

If you like working with computer graphics a lot, Mac with OS X operating system would be better. If not, a regular computer with Windows. That's just my opinion

I don't have Mac, but I do like it better than Windows. I think my next computer will be Mac with OS X It's also so much quicker than Windows, and much less "cluttersome" than Windows. I think Windows is overrated. It's a big monopoly. We need more options than Windows alone.

I always was a pc person until I tried a mac with OS X. it hooked me with the best software for video editing, but mainly the stability of the system is what got me to switch over. Unix is so much more stable than DOS and I don't miss the blue screen of death. it's nice to not have all the anti-this & anti-that software running and it's nice to have a computer that can just run for days & days & days without crashing. I hated macs and now I love them - so that should say a lot for the OS and how solid the machines are.

I also have a Mac.. OS X with tiger operating system. I love the mac and wouldnt want to use anything else ever again. Its true.. no virus's to worry about etc etc.
BUT.... sadly my beloved Mac got hit during a thunderstorm/power outtage and the internal ethernet card is corrupted.Everything else works fine, just can't get online. Only way for me to fix it is to send it out and get the ethernet replaced and I heard that can cost a lot! So here I am using a windows laptop that my husband had.. and even tho I am now used to using windows again, I really want my MAC BACK!!.... :'(

I've used Mac, but I can't really say I liked it. Honestly, though, I have had next to no problems with Windows. I've used as far back as Windows 3.1 and the only time I get errors is when the program itself is at fault.

I know people with Macs that crash..... frequently. To say the least. And I've had my computer running for well over a month at a time.

I'm a pc guy. May not be as stable, but at least I can find software to run on it!

Vista, but I think about a Mac every time I turn on my PC. The next one is gonna be a Mac. You can get Mac Office and the only other things I use my PC for are photos, videos and internet. So, I think Mac is the computer I'm looking for. My Vista Laptop is less than a year old though so I think it'll be awhile before I can get an iBook. I have too many fish related purchases planned first.

In case you were wondering, DO NOT UPGRADE TO VISTA UNTILL AT LEAST SERVICE PACK 1.

Sorry I love/hate Vista. It has some nice features but it is not fully functional yet. I have a lot of dumb crashes.

microsoft still has a lot of work to do in their attempt to copy OS X, unfortunately.

Both windows and OS.X have a lot of work to do to catch up with Ubuntu Linux.

You hit the nail right squar on the head there. A lot of Vistas "new features" (i.e. the Aero "experience") feel like Mac features. They even changed from an hour glass to a little spinning circle. Very similar to Mac or atleast iTunes which I assume is much like OS-X. Honestly, I don't think it is unfortunate that Microsoft has not yet copied OS-X fully. I think the Mac catching speed will bolster the industry. It's been a one dog show for way too long. At some point someone has to do something new, different and better. That said I know nothing about Linux, so bOn3ZA tell me what makes it better.

BLASPHEMY!

It depends on what you want, and what you're willing to do/put up with/tolerate. I'm all Mac at home, forced to use Windows at work. Windows is great if you like to get geeky, play with permissions and crunch numbers. It's an IT administrators dream. Mac is more single user orientated, and a programmers nightmare. All the work is forced onto the development side, so that the user is free to focus on getting the task done. Hence the smaller volume of malware, viruses and other nasties associated with them. (Mac users, don't kid yourselves, there are nasty bits of code out there, it's just they rarely get distributed and are so easy to block with common sense precautions. But we're not immune)

Big question to the Original Poster is; What do you want to accomplish with your home computer? That will determine what system you end up with.

Also, pay no mind to the cries of Mac's are expensive, PC's are cheap. Look at total cost of ownership. From unpacking the box to replacement of the system. Price is about the same in those terms. Just with the Mac, you pay it all up front, PC's a bit here, a bit there, a chunk today, another chunk tomorrow.

I got Windows on my newest computer, but mostly because the things I like to do are on Windows, and I didn't feel up to trying to figure out what was compatible... The people I know with Mac's really like them too though, lol.

I spent years on a PC and didn't consider Macs, but after working on a system with Mac OS X, I was impressed with the stable OS and switched over. If I had a PC, I would put Ubuntu on it instead of Windows.

LOL, Mac. Only get mac if you just need it for fishforums. If you want to play games of any sort you need windows, mac charges way to much for their gaming machines. Just bought two new computers after doing research for months(ironic because new technology rises atleast every month) all that I found was that for nearly identical performace I was saving a few hundred dollars, and yes Macs can and do get viruses, its just that the computer won't tell you about it. Hope you make the right choice.

95% of all malicious programs from viruses to adware target Windows. Linux-based operating systems are practically free of that stuff and in 4 years, I've not had one.

I've used every version of Windows, from Windows 4.0 (Chicago) to Vista and that's why even on a PC, I wouldn't install Windows.

On the new macs, you can run Windows better than on a PC using a piece of software called Parallels.

For gaming, I'd get a PS3.

Mac. Definitely Mac. I grew up on a PC, but then switched to Mac when I started working in a branding agency. I would/could never go back. The graphics are better, it's more stable, and it's a lot more secure.

I've got a MacBook (with the Intel chip), but I refuse to install Windows on it

Gaming... World of Warcraft is all I need.. and that's on both Windows and Mac. Woot. Heh.

LOL. That's the nice thing about Parallels. Windows isn't on permanently. But I wouldn't even use that really. If I dual-boot, it's to Mac OS and Ubuntu or even Solaris.

But more people have PC's then Mac's

  • #37
That's because in general they are better, and most of the time cheaper. Mac just charges way to much for their stuff, especially if you plan on playing anything other than solitaire.

Yeah, but that's what I normally do. I love playing sims, so mac would not be the best choice if you want to download junk off the internet, or download games, right?

If you want to game go get a console. A computer system to game is a waste of money. My machine is for work and web.
