Lump On Betta Head.

Woke up this morning inspecting the tank and I noticed my betta now has a swollen head. His behavior is normal. Lastnight he was just fine. Almost like he has a tumor. Any ideas?

So strange! I've actually seen this before! There's a similar thread floating around on Fishlore, I'll link it below so you can take a look.
I read through it but it doesn't shed too much light on the issue. I've seen a couple other cases like this, one where the betta lived happily for another year. Best of luck, wish I could offer more help! I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will come and help out!
Help - Swollen spot on head!

Thanks! It is so weird! The betta is still doing great. He's spazzing out more. I think the swelling is blocking his vision a little. Still eating like a champ. Very active with the other fish. The lump doesn't look like it grew any. I was thinking maybe it was a heater burn or something? I don't think they get that hot tho. All I keep thinking when I see him is, Awee my poor duck looking fish :/.

I'm so sorry! Often times with fish, its almost always a guessing game when diagnosing. Could be anything between a tumor to a bacterial infection, I hope its nothing. Keep the thread updated, I really want to see where it goes. I'm very glad to hear he's still eating.

Super weird for sure! Seems to be going down now. His head is almost flush with his back again. His scales are still standing up but the redness went away. Maybe he just got really excited and bunked his head on the glass. Lol

Last update. Betta is back to normal. So happy, he's truly a boss in this tank and I'd hate for anything to happen to him. I'm really hoping he didn't get burnt from the heater. It does have 50 extra watts than needed because my apartment gets reallly cold in the winters. Thanks for your help!

Unlikely that it was a burn, he would've had to cozy up with his head on the heater for a while. My 55 gal has a heater that's over-watted by like 80W I believe. No idea what it was but hopefully he stays normal!
