My ludwigia is dull in color what caused my plant to dull? I just put a florish tab by the roots to maybe get the color back. Would liqud fertilizer be able to fix it? Or could it be not enough light, I planning on getting a glass top and a better light for it. If you could help me thanks

Plant I have in my tank:

Java fern
Ludwigia
Rotala
Banana plant
Crypt
Moss balls

15513873171681767596821.jpgI do want to get Java Moss and more water sprite, Moss balls and ludwigia. I'm hoping to get my tank to be heavily planted but before I do I want to get my plants healthier before I add to the family.

It almost appears that they are melting. How long have they been in this tank?

Two things come to mind. Gravel and light. With gravel that’s too large, the roots can’t properly spread to find nutriance, and that could be the issue. Also; light is a main factor in color. the greener it is, the less light you have since green chlorophyll absorb more light then red, so it grows more green leaves in lower light.

Red color is from light. Red plants like all plants need a source of nutrients, but nutrients are not what cause the redness. However yours do seem to also have nutrient problems, the growth looks very small and thin.

ya very little growth in the ludwigia, I did put a tab by the roots and what do you suggest I put in place of the gravel? I this I should mix sand in with it. Or instead I get a new tank and kinda start over and change the gravel to sand or something I don't know what do you think? I have just started a few months ago. (September)

Thank you!

A soil based substrate is the more nutrient rich option, but for the mean time a complete liquid fertilizer like Nilocg Thrive will serve the basics.

I would personally get a more nutrients rich substrate like amazonian. If you did mix sand with the gravel, the mechanical process of shifting would make the sand be all lower then the gravel, so you’ll eventually end with sand on bottom and gravel on top with no combination

Mm ya, but the problem is I can't mess with it to much because I have fish in the tank. It would be cheaper if I got a different tank and just mostly start over...

NOTE: in the first month or two I wasn't happy with where it was so I kept on moving it until I liked it which I think is half the problem sorry plant...I would put the plants in bad shape in a five gallon (that I don't have yet) so they can get better. And this time I won't mess with them.

Welcome

Could the melting be because of the light?
The first month they were doing so well!
Now they like this.... .And don't be fooled at how good the Java fern looks if you were here you would see that they're a little on the dull side as well.
