I have a 300l tank with a selection of fish in it. Recently the pH dropped quickly. I tested the water and found the kh was little above 0 . I used nt labs kh up and raised the kh to 6 over a few days. Now the pH is stable but at about 7.8. can I lower it back to 7.2 without lowering the kh again?.

Why do you want to lower your pH? 7.8 is fine for most domestic, captive bred tropical fish in the US. Where are you?
You can try sphagnum peat moss in your filter, driftwood, and Almond leaves, but really, raising your KH permanently so your pH is more stable, would be more prudent than trying to bring your pH down. What is your GH?

I have a selection of gouramis in the tank. I have found in the past that they don't do as well when the pH is above 7.5. my gh reads 6 as does my kh so according to my test kit instructions the gh is effectively 0 as it says the gh figure includes the kh.

Sorry I forgot to mention I'm england
