Lousy shipping and equally lousy order

I finally got shipment of fish today but out of the 12 celestial pearl danios that I ordered, only 7 of them are danios, one is a neon tetra, and the other 3 are dead neon tetras.

How could anyone get those different fish confused??

Oh and FedEx tells me that the shipping refund needs to be processed through the company I ordered the fish from and the company is telling me that the refund needs to be processed through FedEx.

Depending on how things shake out, I might reveal the name of the company that screwed up my order.

One thing is for sure....

I will never ever ever order fish online again. Two times I did this and two times the companies screwed up.

Exactly!

Either someone had no idea what they were netting or they have celestial pearl danios in the same tank as neons!

So far it's not looking good for that company. They have not responded to my email.

I just got some fish today through the mail and I am very happy. ill bet if you buy from actual hobbyist and not a big company you would have a good time of it. thats pretty dumb how they would do that, and its hilarious how they managed to kill some tetras, because if you do it right, shipping fish is super easy.

That's a bummer!

I will say that I am not a fan of purchasing fish online. I ordered, interestingly enough, CPDs from a very well-known and highly regarded online place and first of all, they were so tiny, I almost think they were fry. Not one of them lasted the night.

In the same order, I had purchased a dozen Amano shrimp because I figured that they would be big enough to not be snacks for my fish. Nope. Every one of them was the size of a medium Cherry Shrimp. As soon as they hit the tank, they got chased into crevices and I only saw 2 of them 2 more times when I was cleaning the tank and they came out of driftwood that I took out of the tank.

Never again. Even if they have good reviews.

I tried to purchase from a local breeder that advertised CPDs on ger website as being for sale so I emailed her and didn't receive a response for about a week.

Her response?

I'm not selling those.

I'm never ordering fish from anywhere. I'll just go to local pet stores and buy the ordinary kind

I've found quite a fondness for touring the countryside to find new LFS. So many are unique and have good things to see and purchase. It's almost become a hobby within a hobby!!

Stellar reviews or not, I'll never order online again.

This particular company has until 4pm tomorrow afternoon to favorably respond to my email. If they do not respond or give me any trouble, I'll post their website and advise people to stay away.

Maybe a bad yelp review too

I don't have the desire to do such a thing.

From now on, I'll buy fish from a local store and toss them in the tank. I no longer care about looks, variety, color, etc. None of that garbage

Hopefully your online store doesn't start with the letter "B"

I would really recommend doing research on whoever you’re ordering fish from before you do. I did that and had a stellar experience getting in 4 German black rams. It came in just one day, all 4 were healthy and fast, great color and they’re the perfect size for me to raise them from juvenile to adult. Also the box was just big enough so there was minimal movement and it was lined with styrofoam and had a heat pack.

What you went through isn't funny whatsoever but your wording sure is. "One is a neon tetra and the other 3 are dead neon tetras." LOL

Online ordering is a huge risk imo. I've had luck ordering through my LFS because if they arrive dead then the store covers it. They also offer a one week warranty somehow. Other than that there's one store 2 hours away that I trust and the other is a very small hole in the wall place that I sometimes get a fish or two from

Don't assume I didn't research

The one neon tetra that was alive when I put him in the tank is now dead.

No but I was nervous about it. I only decided to try it because I have tried the LFS by me and my selection is really limited.

My buddy ordered 12 cherry barbs and got 6, the other 6 were black neon tetras that died immediately so pretty similar experience. I wonder if it's common to do that to people

Ah yes the common mixup between neon tetras and cherry barbs. So tough that they are identical

That’s sad. I got an order from wetspot for the first time last week and must say that they really impressed me. Good customer service, good fish, packed well. All thriving.

There are always good and bad businesses. If you have a bad experience just avoid that business. If you have a good, go there again!

I’m sorry you had a bad experience. What happened to you is a ridiculous mess up on the part of the seller. I’ve ordered online probably 20 times now, and I’ve had great results 90-95% of the time. Most people here on fishlore have admitted that they don’t quarantine. That’s honestly a bigger risk in my opinion than purchasing from a reputable online store or breeder or source in general.

Could you say who, because if they are that bad they mixed up neons and CPD, I'd rather not order from them. And with all those dead fish. Or if you don't want to start anything, could you pm me.

Now that’s a big mistake. 2 totally different fish that don’t even look the same. I’ve never ordered fish online cause of the shipping price lol. Luckily I have a lot of fish stores around me to buy them. Hope the problem gets resolved!

I admit to that as well. I've had good luck, but that doesn't mean I won't run into an issue in the future. I only buy from sources that I know are as safe as possible so that helps my case a bit

I was really tempted to order from them based on the great reviews I've read buy I don't like the way their "menu" is laid out.

I like to see pictures of what I'm ordering, not just words

Exactly!

They do have neons advertised on their website but they're also advertised as being large. These dead fish I got were nowhere near large size!

Do they look large to you??

Hmm that looks like 2 green neons and one regualar neon. Looks like they need to learn how to ID fish better

Same here, especially when I was in Germany every store I found was unique. Google has definitely made it easier to find them though.

They do look like greens but they don't sell green tetras....according to their website

Nope not at all. Full grown neons are usually about an inch.

I should've listened to my gut earlier....

It was telling me how nice neons would look swimming around with the glofish. I think their colors would've looked sharp.

This ruins my plans for the near future. I was going to order amano shrimp but not now.

Great news!!
I always say you should judge a company not by the mistakes it makes, because let’s face it they all make mistakes, but how they deal with you about it & rectify their mistakes.
