Looking to buy a 20gl tank somewhere?

Hello, I've been on this wonderful site for a while now, and I think I need to upgrade my 5.5 to a 10 or better a 20. (For endless reasons!)
Looking around the prices go from 70$ to 100$ or more. Anywhere else where I could get one?
So far the cheapest one I found is around 50$ at petco. Or the whole kit for 80$. If there was a combination of tank + filter + lights for a lesser price, or just a cheaper tank?
Or maybe that's just how it is, and anything cheaper is just rubbish?

If you wait for the dollar per gallon you can get a 20 (High, I don't think they sell longs for $ per gallon) for 20 dollars.

 

Have you checked Craigslist? I got all three of my tanks there plus people will usually throw in nets, buckets, siphons, decorations.....I could go on...

 

Check your local marketplaces online.. many people get into the hobby, and just as quickly abandon it. I have scored great set ups for a small fraction of the original price. 20G set ups are a dime a dozen in my areas fb marketplace.
On that same note, if you use Fb, look for local aquarist groups... joining such a community is a gold mine for used set ups.

 

In the end you've got to figure out what you like. I like 20 gallon-high tanks. Decent size but still fits on the top of a dresser or somewhere similar. My first was a used kit setup and my 2nd was a used tank-only for which I bought a cheap glass lid and a nice light. The lid from the 1st kit tank is annoying and the lights are cheap. The 2nd bought piece by piece is much nicer for similar money. Just be patient on the Kijiji (or similar ads) and what you're looking for will come along. About 80% of the people are asking near new prices but eventually reasonable listings show up if you're patient.

My 'problems' are 1) I need something sturdy enough to hold it, cause being in the living room I don't have any dresser or similar. 2) Where did you find the glass lid? I made one with a nice thick plexiglass but the humidity made it concave. -_-"
My first was is a 10$ 5.5 (Walmart) and for not knowing anything about fishes it turned out pretty good, with filter, bubbles, heater, various plants and decor...
Hard to keep the water stable, so switching.
