Looking for a fish that is sort of difficult to breed?

Hi everyone, I was hoping for some info about breeding. I have nothing planned at all yet, and have never bred fish before. I am definitely looking for something small, the least amount of and the smallest sized tank! I want something relatively easy to breed. I have heard way too many stories of people having their tanks filled with fish after buying incorrectly sexed fish, no livebearers for me! I want something that I still have to try to breed, but is pretty easy if that makes any sense lol. I don’t even know if it will be possible for me to breed anything, I’m really just starting to get some ideas. I would love shrimp, but I am very scared of having a tank overrun by them haha. Any suggestions or words of advice would be greatly appreciated!

Danios are a great one, if you don't try and breed them they will likely eat all the eggs and fry but are easy to breed if you want to. Get the shrimp! They won't overrun a tank, especially not with a fish in the tank such as danios.

How many gallons would I need for just shrimp? I would definitely only get a few at my LFS because after they start breeding I will have an endless supply lol

A 10 gallon tank is a good size for them, but too small for danios. There are other fish you could do in a 10g though

What fish would you suggest for a ten gallon? Tetras maybe? Again I have never breed anything before, so I’m just trying to take in as much info as possible right now!

All the boraras species would do well with shrimp in a 10g tank. Most common would be the chili rasbora aka, boraras brigatte.

Okay, I’m not sure. What about guppies? I know they are livebearers, but I just read an article about controlling guppy breeding and it seems easy enough.

Yes its easy but you said you didn't want fry to survive without you wanting them too. If u want to be overrun with guppies then go with them.

Sorry, I think my last post might have been worded in a confusing way. I meant to say that I read about how to keep guppies from uncontrollably breeding, and I think I could handle them using the methods I read about. I am also not opposed to keeping them with a female Betta as well to control fry and then moving some guppies when I specifically want them to breed. Do you have any thoughts on this?

Anything that will eat guppy fry will eat shrimp fry, and a betta can et even adult shrimp. Alo guppies prefer hard water while bettas prefer soft water. I've never kept the 2 so i cant give any of my own experience

bettas are fun to breed and its not that not that hard.
I breed mine in a 5 gallon the babys will have to move to 10 gallons or bigger as they get older though.
but there breeding process is so cool

Oh I love bettas, I want to breed them so bad but I couldn’t handle keeping all the male fry separate once they become aggressive. Because I live with my parents I have some limits for how big of tanks I can get and how many. Enough for betta fry would definitely not be possible. I do love them so much though, they are what got me into aquatics. They are definitely my favorites, but I’m still in high school and I plan on going to college for a long time to get a high degree of education, so I’m looking at 10 years until that would be possible . Thanks for the suggestion though!
