So I was looking at my tanks a few days ago and was talking to my dad's friend who also have fish ( African cichlids) and he was talking about how he wants me to decorate his tank with live plants because he like how my tank look even though to me it looks a hot mess but I don't mind doing it for him if he wants but after he left I realized I have a problem. See the problem is I became so fascinated by fish that I want more fish and to rescape my tank. I been watching so many YouTube videos about fish that my parents are tired of me talking about fish and all these ideas in my head about how I want the tanks to look and if I am not talking about fish I am talking about my dog and don't get me started on my dog. My patents say I need to make some friends even though I do have friends. So in other words I might need some help lol

I would try and see if you can connect to other people in the hobby. That way your parents cannot complain about your social contacts while you can spend your time gushing and discussing fish (or dogs) without the other party losing interest in the conversation.
Win-win!

(Seriously, if you are really into a hobby it usually doesn't really work to talk about it with people outside of that hobby. At best they are tolerant of your yapping, at worst they get fed up with it).

Yeah my parents tell me that a lot too...
What I do is I tell them about my day and tell them every little detail, so that it’s a 15-30 min conversation. Parents really love to hear about how your day went, I guess they kinda like the drama, it’s like a soap opera to them. Then they can’t tell you all you talk about are your animals, because you tell them about your day for 30 mins every day.

Lol. I could talk about fish all day if I had the chance....

Between my 3 aquariums and how often I scuba dive, fish are always on my mind.

Scuba diving sounds like it's fun. Maybe I should try it one day

You absolutely should.

The two hobbies go hand in hand and doing each of them makes me enjoy the other one even more.

Don’t worry! One day you’ll move out like I did and no one will be able to tell you no when you want more fish lol. It’ll be a blessing and a curse lol.

Wait what there are others in this hobby. I can't believe that. I have yet to find a fish forum or face book page.

I fee your pain. I sit staring at my fish tank, stroking the dog with one hand and the cat with the other. Who says I’m antisocial?

I’ve become more aware of talking to friends about my aquarium or cat or dog and then I say “here let me show you” and pull out my phone and I see that look - you know the one where they are being polite but thinking how much they’d like to be somewhere else.

Good way around it is make friends at the dog park - go the same time every day and it’s inevitable. You already have a common interest.

With Aquarists it’s harder. I won’t say go to the aquarium as I think we all need to stay away from there lest we spend more money and come home with even more fish!

Online? Local Facebook groups of people who like fish? That way you can establish a network of people who may be able to help out with offcuts of plants, fry, etc. start trading and such?...! just a thought.

Good luck
