Loki’s Planted Oasis!

alexk77

I wanted to make a thread because I’m very proud of this tank, it’s still a work in progress as I learn more on how to work with live plants, Driftwood, and everything aquarium!
Loki is my brand new betta fish. I got him last week. He is a twin tail, and depending on the lighting he shows a blue to iridescent green colour. He’s so handsome.
His tankmates so far include 2 nerite snails: One onion pattern, and one is a unique pattern (technically a zebra, but his stripes turn into spots. Almost like a zebra-onion hybrid.)
Here is the 5g oasis:
Here is Loki. Last image he is doing a cartwheel. Just kidding, he’s just so curious that he’s face first in whatever it is he is interested in.
Please ignore all the debris. Still waiting on a turkey baster i ordered to get all of that cleaned up. My mopani wood is beautiful but it still has biofilm as it is also relatively new.
will include pictures of the snails when they decide to show themselves to me.

Snails are finally out. First pic is my “big onion” and second is my so called “zebra” nerite.

So i wanted to show a better comparison of Loki’s different colours, as i didn’t have the best pictures earlier. It really depends on the lighting and where he is in the tank.
When he’s close up and right under the LEDs, he flashes an amazing iridescent turquoisey green. when he isn’t in direct lighting he looks very dark blue. It amazes me, i’ve never had a betta that does this.
I also think he may have a marbling gene, or maybe he’s just changing colour because he is happy. His cheeks were much more blue when i first got him, now his whole head is completely black, and his blue colour doesn’t start until past his gills.
The last picture is from two weeks ago; when i got him.

Is he a doubletail halfmoon? He is absolutely stunning!!!!!
Thank you!
He was labelled as a double tail / twin tail, their dorsal fins are often longer than other types of bettas. His tail does spread out like a halfmoon.

He is stunning ! I do have a soft spot for dark headed betta’s. Not sure why but I just find the colour change appealing. Anyway he is lovely !
