Local Fish Stores

Living in Southern California= Family owned tropical fish store in practically every shopping center.

 

We have 1 lfs about 15 miles to the east; 1 lfs 11 miles due south. Both are pricey and one just went through a management change. Neither know a lot in comparison to the info. I get here. Next would be Petco and Petsmart about an hours drive. None of them have great choices in fish, live plants, or other needed items.

 

I believe I have about 8 or 9 in my area, but only visit 5 of them, might want to go to the other ones just to see what they're like.

 

We have one locally owned store but we won't shop there anymore 'cause the owner is such a jerk. 2 chain stores, Pet Supply Plus and Petco and Wal-Mart still has fish but I will not buy anything out of that department.

We get food and supplies from PS+ but drive 30-50 minutes when we want to buy more fish.

 

My stores are walmart which I don't think I'll ever buy anything cuase there no Saltwater stuff and a tractor supply. I only buy stuff for my guniea pig Hrbee. But for my fish I go to store in another city.

 

Umm... multipule walmarts, Petsmart, Pet-land (another coming soon), petcetera, two non-chain stores only one of which I've been to.

 

I have at least 6 with in 30 min. of the house 4 are chain stores 1 is a local chain of 4 stores but really only 2 just fish stores that I know of 1 has a great variety but not many tanks the other has a lot of varieties and many tanks. I think they do really well because they will do set up and maintanence on all sizes and types of tanks in businesses and if you have the money in your home.

 

We have a LOT for a small area, within 30mins we have 1 chain store (yech!) and 7 pet stores and 3 fish specialist stores . Most are O.K. the LFS stores have staff that know a lot stock a lot but for a community on the tip of the great barrier reef we only have 1 store that stocks salt water fish!?!. The chain store need to have its permit revoked but that's another story, the pet stores staff need serious education ( "whats cycling?" yes, I was asked this!) and one guy I called the RSPCA on. There use to be a lot more a few years back, but there's still quite a few dotted around the city.

 

I have about 2 that are even close to me. one is in town and the other is like a 20 minute drive away. And they are both small!

The pet shops NEAREST TO ME ARE THE Kalayaan Petshop and Pet Shelter. Now I go to Cartimar and the pet shop in Pasig because they are cheaper.

We have no pet or fish stores in our town. the closest is 1 hour away and it's a Wal-Mart.
