Little video edit I made out of boredom of my 55 gallon planted dwarf cichlid community tank with CO2

I did tank maintenance yesterday and didn't have anything to tinker with on the tank today so I got the camera out for a small video edit. I can take decent photos but an am awful videographer. The CO2 bubbles appear much more visible on video than they do in person for some reason. Also maybe it's just my computer but video quality is way better if you watch it on youtubes website.

Stunning tank and beautiful fish. Love the Bolivians! You aren't a bad videographer at all.

Love it. Did you slightly rescape? When did you add an angel? Love the wood on the left!

Very very small rescape. Moved a few plants around, rearranged the wood a bit. Not much else. I've had the Angel for a few months now. Long story short I went to order Amano shrimp online for my 20 gallon and was sent an Angel instead. I eventually got the Amanos and the Angel has been working out in the 55 even though I didn't plan to have one. He's mild mannered and so far gets along with everyone.

Nice! Did you get a refund? I love my angel.

Since I eventually actually got the Amanos I originally ordered I wasn't given a refund. I just wound up with a free Angel. Once he's fully grown he'll be the biggest fish in the pond and should make a nice "centerpiece" as long as he stays calm. I've been enjoying him so I'll consider it a win
Love the keyholes! Nice tank!
Thanks! Even though they're not flashy or super colorful Keyholes are my favorite "community cichlid" as far as temperament and being able to live in groups goes. Very mellow fish from my experience.

What a great looking tank. Love the small plants in the front. What are they? I need some smaller low growing plants.

Thanks! Good luck and post it if you do!

Thanks they're always works in progress. Are you referring to the "grass like" bunch of plants front center? That's Dwarf Sagittaria. Pretty easy plant to grow. I have to pull some out every week since they spread so fast once they get a foothold.

Beautiful tank!!! This is my spirit animal... I'm starting to settle on some mixture of Keyholes and Bolivians for my 54G corner tank. I've been trying to work in Apistos but I think I'll just do them in a 20L going next to my desk at home. I decided to go back to real plants in this one, so I'll be rescaping it to put in some aqua soil and fluorite black sand (had already intended on scaping sand in), and hopefully get some java moss / some low light anubis and stuff that I can attach to hardscape this weekend if Petco is still open. If you don't mind a question since our tanks are similar size wise, how many keyholes / Rams would be a good mix considering this is a corner tank? I love the idea of getting 5 keyholes with 2 pairs of Bolivians.

toeknee definitely an "A Team" tank. Great scape.

What is the third cichlid - the one that is not the ram or angel. Also I've always found one and two angles to be friendly - it is when I have more than 2 that things can be dicey. When the angles fight I move one to the 29 and it becomes a pacifist.

Thanks everyone. jake37 the 3rd Cichlid is a Keyhole Cichlid. They're very mild mannered and work well for community tanks. They're not the flashiest most colorful Cichlid but they have the perfect temperament to be in groups in a community tank. Yes in a 55 gallon one, maybe two angels is the most you would want. Even with two Angels you could run into trouble if they pair up and start spawning. They could terrorize the rest of the tank if they spawned, which is why I've stuck with just one.

faydout Thanks! In my experience Keyholes and Bolivians have been a great combo. They barely pay each other any attention. What are the dimensions of your corner tank? Most likely you can get away with 5 Keyholes and 3-4 Rams as long as the tank has a decent footprint and plenty of hiding places. For Bolivians I would try to get 1 male to 3 females or 1 male to 2 females. I would avoid getting two pairs as aggression could flair during spawning. The only source that's been able to get me female Bolivians is from coralbandit His Rams are top notch. Maybe reach out to him when it comes time to getting them. I had 1 male Ram for awhile and had troubles getting females. I tried introducing other males two times and he would not tolerate them and I had to rehome them. I requested 3 females from Coral and got all 3 females. (although requested sex is never guaranteed from a seller) My solo Male gets along great with his harem of females and the females all get along great as well.

I just wanted to comment on this point with a little more detail though it is basic agreement. I've had several pairs of angels and it is very amusing how vastly different they are in behavior during spawning. The previous pair I had (which I had to give to the lfs) would claim 3 1/2 feet of a four foot tank as territory during spawning. This really did create a ruckous since any fish just resting on the bottom even in a corner was likely to get a nip (given that the angels spawned in the middle of the tank there wasn't much space they didn't consider theirs). The current pair and the pair I had a long time ago are much better in that while they spawn in the rear middle (sword plant leaf) the area they guard is very small so if the fishes stay to the side or front of the tank there is no hostility at all - it is only a 4 or 5 inch area around the eggs that is off limits. While I really don't want baby angels (the female angel so far has been eating the eggs as they hatch - not sure why but it works for me); it also isn't creating much of an issue in the tank. Also unlike the previous pair the female is doing 99% of the work - with the other pair the male actually did close to 40% of the work (fanning and guarding).

Keyhole cichlid - will look them up. I had been thinking acara might be nice for my next tank but maybe not.
