So this is fishlore a site used for fish keepers and another pets this site has always been extremely helpful to me wen I need info on my aquariums or reptile. And today I am having a mental break down so I decided to post this in our other interest forum in hopes to get a answer. So here it goes don't come at me ik I'm stupid and Ik this is for animals but literally this site is how I get answers fast wen I can find the answer threw Google searches and ik all u amazing ppl have had yr share in life experiences. I dyed my hair last year several times within a month maybe 8 times literally and then mentally snapped and realized I loved my naturally blonde hair n shouldn't of dyed it any color left it natural... But the deed was done I had ruined my blonde hair with purple red pink blue dusty mauve hot pink a few other colors used color oops to remove all this mess and got a orange juice color hair which I dyed dark brown the brown has faded to a orange brownish color and I have 4 inches of roots dirty blonde that are virgin hair I really don't wanna wait another several months for my hair to reach ear length so I can do my big chop n get rid off all the dead dyed hair so has any one ever dyed the ends of their hair not touching the roots only the ends just to match their root growth or does this sound literally insane I am so ready to go buy a box of dirty blonde hair dye n dye this brownish orange mess my ends are to match my roots growth here is a picture of my hair before dying it and here is a picture of what is it today literally I just want the ends to match the roots and be blonde again heck I'm even ok with my ends being a tiny bit lighter blonde as long as it blends in better then what I have now my grandma has dementia and she is gonna flip on Christmas wen she sees my hair even tho it isn't that bad

May be worthwhile going to a decent salon and asking for a fix. Dont touch the new, healthy hair but on the old hair maybe get balayage with very blonde ends. It’ll look like a style and blend in till your roots are long enough to cut off dead hair and start anew

I didn't think it looked that bad, but if you are trying to counter orange, look at ash blonds. Your hair looks good to me, but I still have purple pink hair underneath. The trouble with trying to add color to bleached hair is it doesn't stay in well if hair is dry/damaged from lightening. So when I wanted to go back to dark blond (my natural), I had to fill my hair, which is leaving just the color on for 15 mins, then adding the activator and color like normal.

The purple pink colors that I use are not dye and smells like candies. It's a stain. I haven't found out how to remove the stain yet, I just keep brightening it up again lol. But hair dye should cover it if it covers grey right? Just use whatever counters the color you have atm.

I have not been to a hair salon in years, I have a phobia of letting anyone else mess with my hair lol, but probably that would be your best option. I still got by on my own all this time haha!

even tho it isn't that bad

It really wasn't but I feel you. When you hang up on it, it doesn't matter the degree of bad, it's just BAD.

I can see the difference in my ends and my roots in my magnified mirror but just looking at me my hair looks close enough to my roots

I think you did a darned good job! Does it feel brittle or did it come out soft as well as looking good?

Oddly it came out way softer then it was at first my ends were a mess I had frizzy hair at the ends from the damaged it now doesn't have the frizzy feels more soft to the touch on the ends my hair is wavy so wen it is damage to the extreme it's frizzy and poofy today I have some finger waves going on surprisingly I'm Googling why my hair feels healthier after dying it bc I'm so lost shouldn't it feel worst lol I mean in January wen I dyed my hair I dyed it 8 times within only January n left it alone till I used vitamin c crushed into shampoo to remove my hair dye which left me with brittle hair n then here we are today n it feels softer n I used the cheapest box dye there is Revlon Ash blonde I used a shade lighter then my roots bc I heard process hair takes darker so go a shade lighter then desired and it worked now I'm just tryna figure out how could hair feel softer after dye

But anyways it sorta worked u can still see the difference in my roots and ends so of course my hair still looks like I dyed it but it looks like a dyed it a light brown color vs orange and blonde I can deal with brown and blonde roots my grandma won't be able to notice of Christmas either the orange would of been so obvious everyone would of said what did u do to yr hair n I would of said I dyed it red burgendy pink hot pink purple dusty mauve dark brown light brown rose gold and honey brown to achieve my blonde hair back that didn't work so I removed all the dye with vitamin c it left my hair orange n I was just rocking orange hair I'm pretty satisfied with my results glad my hair didn't turn green like the salon said it would n glad the orange is less vibrant that was my goal I was hoping in my dreams it would be a perfect spot on match but I know hair science is confusing and u can never achieve yr virgin hair color with box dye especially as a blonde its the sad truth and if yr hair is processed a strange color then it makes it even more impossible for box dye to come out as expected bc it's for nuetural hair colors like spunky colors lolol but needless to say I accepted my ends would be a different hue then my roots no matter what but as long as it's not orange I'm happy for now... I'll have another mental break down next month within time my roots will be long enough to Rock a cute short Bob n chop the dead hair off probably by 2020 summer fingers crossed thanks everyone so much for knowledge and support fishlore has some awesome ppl that I wish were all from MissourI lol happy holidays beauties ❤️

Great job Based on what I see on my phone, it looks like a lighter blond now, like your 'winter' hair is growing in. Lol, I always had darker hair in the winter because the sun was not bleaching my hair. So my hair naturally has an ombre look by spring, that is, if I don't highlight (which I do).

So that is something to look into while you are growing out your hair, ombre that is. A gradual transition between two hair colors, most often darker roots fading to a lighter shade. So think blending. A few highlights that start higher than the line between colors and running to hair tip helps achieve a gradual fade. Man, I hope that's making sense!

Just to give you an idea, I'll tell you about my hair.
I color my hair underneath funky colors, but the top layers are natural with highlights. My underneath hair (lol, being professional here) is lightened ~ half way. When I lightened the ends, I made an uneven line, kind of like highlights reaching beyond the line of bleached hair to natural hair. Make sense?
I color the whole strands of underneath hair a dark pink colour and it comes out much brighter on lightened hair.
Then I'll use a bluey purple color to 'lowlight' starting at the roots and extend into the brighter pink lightened hair (to blend).

For you, you want to just grow out to your natural, so maybe if you just highlight passed the line to help blend it. Ombre is actually a thing ppl do on purpose, I think it looks natural.

You might need to dye the ends again, I know I had to every month or so when I growing out my bleach blond My hair was brittle and processed, it wouldn't hold hair dye for longer than 2 days. Your hair is in much better shape so it will hold better. But next time you dye the ends, try the 'fill' method. Use only the color and leave it on for 20 minutes (or whatever really), then mix developer and apply to hair. And the filler doesn't have to be the same color. Just saying, I think I dyed my bleached hair a light or med brown to make it a dark blond. I would suggest filling it with light brown and dyeing it a dark blond. I'm not sure about using ash blond a second time or not, it depends on if you still see orange (or red actually). It can turn a green color if there is no red pigment. And BIG disclaimer, I am a just a person who has been there and you have similar hair as me, so thought maybe I could help haha

And you're right, you'll never get the same color as your natural, but you can get close, if not a shade lighter like you have and blend it.

And pick sulfate free shampoo Also I don't lather my ends like the roots. I mostly use conditioner on the ends and shampoo at the roots. If all mixes up in the rinse, but you know what I mean?

Lolol yes you're a life saver I swear a hole lesson I learned I literally think hair is more confusing then mathematics n I hate math well I guess my hair is a bit better then what I had n that's enough to keep me from having another mental melt down in the rest room for this month girl we will see when next month comes

Your hair does feel better after color. It fills in all the dry crevasses and glues down the splits some. I didn't think there was such a thing as color that totally covers gray..

Oh, I just thought of temporary dyes. I haven't used them, but some of them are good for 20 shampoos or so, but anyway, get you through the holidays without subjecting your hair to peroxide or whatever the chemicals are.

I will never ever put blue in my hair again....lol I did it last October and it was green for 2 months. It was 10 day temp dye. I used Prell and Clarifying shampoo every day and scrubbed too. My hair is still kinda messed up from last year!

Yikes!! I stay with purply blue that fades to pink.
You know? Now i'm wondering if baking soda would take out the stain color? Not to retain color, but to strip it? Sorry for getting all scientific haha! I use baking soda for a lot of things though because it's cheap and natural. I used to hate math and science, but since this hobby, I've realized how much I am into it now. But yeah, baking soda is great cleanser. I'm sure there are products specifically for that too.

Just remember like once a month shampoo with a purple toner. It won’t maKe your hair purple - but brighter blonde and less orange. You’ll be fine.

I'm guessing I’m the only guy in this thread?
