List Of Equipment That I Will Need

HI everyone! I’m still relatively new to the hobby and I wanted to know if I need any more equipment. So far I have a 20 gallon tank, a good filter, an air pump, an aquarium hood, a heater, water conditioner, and decor. Anything that I am missing? Just want to be sure!

 

Got a test kit or siphon? Really only thing I could think of that you are potentially missing.

 

A bucket.

 

I like plants, but it depends on whether your fish would let you have them.

What’s a siphon and what would I use the bucket for?

GenerationTech, define "a good filter" as you mentioned.

Also, do you know about the nitrogen cycle, and water parameters?

Ammonia/ nitrites / nitrates?

Here are some items you may need.....

Water dechlorinator: I advise getting 500mL bottle of Seachem Prime from Amazon or other online retailer.

1mL and 5mL plastic syringe (without needle): to measure and dose your dechlorinator

Siphon Gravel Vac: any brand works, preferably w/ bulb primer

5-gallon bucket

Sponge filter and airstone: to hook up to your air pump

API freshwater master test kit: online they are $16-$19

Timer: to control your light

Quality fish food: brands such as Omega One, Cobalt Aquatics, Hikari, Ken's Fish, New Life Spectrum, etc, are good brands with quality ingredients. Buy some flake type food and some sinking pellets/wafers. Having variety is good for fish diet.

Substrate: I highly recommend sand over gravel. Sand is infinitely easier to clean vs. gravel. Quikrete brand of Pool Filter Sand is $5 for 50lbs. You will not need entire bag. Use patience when initially washing it out with a garden hose and bucket before placing in the tank.
