Okay I want to setup some lights on my 75 gallon soon to be african cichlid tank. I have a standard double fluorsent light fixture nothing fancy. The bulbs are 48. What I want to know is what do you all suggest. I'm thinking of doing a regular bulb with a actinic blue buld on this fixture. Or I could do a 50/50. I know nothing about lighting, so all suggestions are appreciated.

Personally I like the combination of a Sylvania Gro-Lux & any 10,000k tube. The Gro-Lux is great for showing up the reds & blues on the fish while the 10,000k balances it out so that the lighting doesn't look weird. If you can't get a Gro-Lux an Aqua-Glo or Power-Glo (both 18,000k) will do much the same thing.

Personally I don't like actinic tubes over freshwater tanks. I find the effect to be fairly minimal on fish colours but that could just be me.
