Lighting with plants Q

You know that starter 10G Tank Kit they sell all in one box, with the lights built into the hood/lid? Are those lights adequate enough to grow plants? Nevermind the various plants that are out there, but what about a hardy breed such as Java Fern? I have LOTS of baby fern growth in my cichlid tank and I was thinking about attaching them to this little slab of drift wood before I dunk it into this 10G... I don't want to waste my time trying this, just to kill these baby ferns. Thank you.

they probably won't be enough to grow a luscious carpet, but for some java fern, i don't see why not

I'm not to worried about a garden in this particular tank, it's more or less a temporary tank for new inhabitants I buy, but I'm just lightly playing around with it.
