Lighting Recommends

Hi! So, I've read through many posts and recommendations. I can't seem to find an answer to my particular situation....

I have a non-planted 30g tank. I used to have a planted tank and have fluorescent bulbs and it is causing a lot of algae growth. I do plan to go back to planted some day, but for now I want a solution to light the tank while I don't have plants. Any ideas? Thank you!

The Fluval Aquasky is a good blue collar LED, that's not too expensive.

Thanks

I should add to what I am considering...
- the LED retrofit idea using LED strip lighting
- direct wire LED for my existing lights
- buy a new one which I may not keep to long

On this one, could I use it for planted also some day? I mean, can I set it to not cause too much algae until I get plants and then change the spectrum when I do get plants? Would it provide enough light for both scenarios?

I'm in the process of getting rid of my Fluval Aquasky because the standard (canned) settings did nothing but grow algae. You can customize the lights but I'm not savvy enough to do that so I'd be interested in anyone has tips on it.
Also, just to mention the only way to shut it off or turn it on is via an app on your phone. I didn't like that either. Again, you can set a timer on it but I didn't take the time to learn that either as their instruction book was pretty lame IMO.

well, it seems that is the “best” solution for me so far. If you want to sell let me know.

Nicrew lights are dirt cheap on Amazon. I have one and I love it. Has 2 modes, blue and white or just blue. I have it on a planted tank though, so no idea if it grows algae in an unplanted tank

I have the Fluval Plant 3.0, and there are more than a few tips out there on the web regarding settings for plant growth. I have found, to balance algae and plant growth, that I need to lower the intensity of the lighting. I'm not running CO2, just Excel and water column ferts. The nice thing about the Fluval lights is that you can adjust them to fit your tank.

And just like that... my old light stopped working so I've got the Fluval one going again! The algae is coming back too by the way.
