I'm looking for a light in my 20g. I plan to add in a carpet soon and many other plants. What’s a good light that isn’t more than 40-60$ ?

Finnex planted plus or beams work... get one in the 6500k range. A couple that come to mind. Wait for the experts...

The Nicrew LED from Amazon has pretty good reviews, just purchased one and it is incredibly bright. At $31 I think I'm going to be happy with it

For a carpet in a 20 gallon I would go with the chihiros a series, model a601 (measures exactly to a 20h, if a 20l you would need the stand.
Don’t need to get the plus, the a itself is fine for my tank.
Check ebay as well as amazon, eBay cheaper.
For no co2 I wouldn’t go above the 5th setting (light is dimmable, 7 levels), 4 should be fine for most plants without co2. If you are planning to add co2 then the 6th setting likely will work.
If you decide to spend a bit more, the micmol aqua Air would be my other suggestion

Skip the beamswork or nicrew for a carpet.

You will have to find the right size and for a 10 gallon a 2 bulb fixture is probably enough so that will cut the price down.

I don't really like T5s, they look too bulky. I prefer the slimmer look of LEDs. You can find the cheaper ones like the beamswork DA, although i’m not sure they sell it for a 24” tank. The nicrew series most likely won't be enough for a carpet. You can buy the odyssea dual T5 (6500k version) for around $30-35 on ebay or amazon. But for LED the chihiros series is probably the best.
