Life Expectancy Of Betta From Personal Experience?

I've read bettas can live up to 10 years. But some sites say 3-4 years. I have two adult male bettas (separate tanks), that I love very much. I'm very curious to know how long your finned babies lived? Please from experience, not from what you've read. I want to have some idea of how long I'm going to have them.

The longest I've ever had mine was 6 years. But 3-5 is normally about how long mine live

It depends on the species really. Plakats will be able to freely move more, thus they will live longer, maybe up to 10 years. Plakats have also been bred a little less (I think?) so their genetics are stronger than halfmoons, deltas etc.

I have a Crowntail and what I think is a Delta. It's not quite halfmoon.

I would expect about 2-5 years, depending on the genetic history of the fish.

I had a Betta many, many years ago, who lived 8 years in one of those triangular Betta tanks with no filtration or Betta Fix or Stress Coat, etc. (I don't even know if anyone thought about those things then). His name was Tupac. His death was traumatic and took days. I only recently started with them again.

We had a female crowntail from Petco live for 3 years, and I've heard the big box pet store bettas are already 8-12 months old. So she was probably closer to 4 years old when she passed away.

Yeah normally have them about 3 years, so I'd say 4 years is probably the average, given that they're usually around a year old when purchased.

I had an old veiltail betta that lived for 6-8 years (can't remember exactly how long) in just a vase with a peace lily on top. this was like 10-15 years ago though. I feel like bettas were hardier several years ago.

my last betta was a crowntail about 5 years ago that lived for about 2 years, but I kept him in bad conditions and he got fin & body rot. I haven't kept a betta in ideal conditions its whole life yet. just got my plakat a month ago in a 10 gallon cycled tank with all the works, so we'll see how long he lasts! hope it's a long and good life! xo

I had my longest for 4.5 years, and another for 4. That was a while ago though, the most recent ones from petshops and Walmart have only lived about 18 months on average. There is a lot of inbreeding and of course poor conditons before you get them, and all that takes a toll on their lifespans.

My 2 first bettas lived for 3 years and they were closer to 4 years, that was when I was a beginner and kept them in 0.5 gallon unheated/unfiltered tanks. I'm shocked they managed to live that long. Yeah it depends on genetics, age, and care. I'm hoping my new baby female betta will live for a long time. She's doing great so far.

I had a crowntail that lived about 2 years (but he survived two moves and a lot more stress than I ever meant to inflict on a fish).

When I was little, I had a veiltail in a bowl who made it 6 years, despite all the wrong husbandry.

Currently I have another veiltail who is just over 2 years and a female who I just brought home a couple months ago.

ive had a veiltail that lived for 9 and a halfmoon that lived for 7. right now I'm keeping 2 veiltails and a halfmoon. I would say their lifespan mostly depends on the care but about 4-7 years for an average for me it also depends on how the store you get the betta from cares for them.

I keep mine in unfiltered tanks with deep gravel and lots of pothos and they tend to live 4-6 years
