Licorice Gourami

Hello,

I was just looking at different types of fish for my small tank (3g) and Sparkling Gouramis came to mind. So I did some looking and I really like the look of Licorice Gouramis (P. deissneri). Does anyone have any experience with them? I'll probably only use the 3 gallon as a grow out though and move them into my larger tank when they're full grown. Also if you know any websites that sell them it would be great!

Thanks

The fish pictured below was listed as a P. deissnerI but it doesn't look like one to me. The only P. deissnerI that I've seen have red in them. Any thoughts?

I don't have any experience with them but I had a look for photos. The one in Greg Jennings 500 Freshwater Aquarium Fish has similar body colouration, no red and no where near as impressively marked a tail. Dr Axelrod's MinI Atlas of Freshwater Aquarium Fishes has as specimen very like the one you show but a line of red in the dorsal and analfins and tail. If they have been bred in capitivilty for nearly 100 years (Jennings) then maybe variants have arisen.

will you be able to keep perameters stable enough in a 3gal. to keep one in there? I know you're asking for personal experience, I don't have any, but I've heard they're not the easiest fish to keep alive.

Thanks!

Yes I would be able to keep the water parameters stable in the 3g. Because I don't have a huge amount of stuff to do each week I'd probably get in a waterchange every day or every other day.

I think LiveAquari.com has them, I think. They seem to be a good, healthy, live fish source, but I've never bought anything from them.
