a couple new fish projects up and running as per usual but these animals are just straight pets. Not a hobby which honestly fish are more of to me. But don’t get me wrong I got pretty attached to a few betta fish throughout the years I’ve kept them.

Two dogs.

i always thought I would be like the poster above me but kids , job, small house and barking pups means no additional critters for me. I miss rabbits.

Well. First up we have Wunchie. Weird name, I named her Crunchie and then realized her name needed to start with W. She's 11 days old, and I'd consider her a pet because she comes into the house...

20220305_081656.jpg
Next is Sid, our 13 year old farm dog. Again, he's such a cuddly old boy he has to be considered a pet. He's very helpful too and loves being on the farm.

20220224_193516.jpg
My gorgeous model boy, Henry. He's just turned a year old and he's my best friend. He's a cheeky young man who loves the dog, which Sid finds very confusing. My mum rescued Henry when he was about 5 weeks old when she found him near her house, with a degloved chin and not eating.

20211208_094140.jpg

Our four chickens! The bottom one (Daffodil), and the top left one are about 4 years old (Steven Dorking) and the other two are about 6 months old.

20220219_190748.jpg

These ducks were eggs I found in one of our paddocks (after accidentally scaring the mother away). 8 hours later, she hadn't returned so I put the eggs underneath our broody chook. All 9 eggs hatched, but we lost 3 ducklings. The ducks have now moved out, but come to visit us regularly so I am still counting them.

20211219_152218.jpg

I've got another cat (Molly), my step sister has a rabbit (Bart), and we've got around 140 cows (I felt like i could only include one here, otherwise I would have added at least 6 photos of cows that no one other than me can tell apart... Oh, and we have tadpoles! I guess they're almost frogs at this point though.

So many cute pets! I used to have budgies too but they kept getting accidents and they didn’t fit in so I didn’t get any more.

I don’t think there is a thread like this, might as well start one especially since I want to talk about my other pets.

So what other pets does everyone keep? Anything from creatures with scales to creatures with fur.

My furry friend is a black cat, named Rosie. I’ve had her for 4 years. She’s 7, almost 8. All 4 years I’ve kept her she’s thrown up. We’re going on vacation for a month, so we had to take her to the vet. She lost 2 pounds over 3 years. The vets originally thought it was feline aids. We didn’t have much money back then and there was no cure, so we decided not to test her. This time they thought feline leukemia. We tested her for that and had blood work done. Turns out, all this time she had hyperthyroidism. That’s treatable so yay! She’s on meds right now and gladly begs for her greenies pill pockets everyday. When we give her the treat she begs for more. So happy to know she can be treated, even though the meds will be for her entire life!

ok, besides my cat, I have pets I want too. For years I was scared of dogs because my grandmas dog, Arnie, nipped me. It was definitely my fault, he was an old dog with some sort of leg issue and I guess I kept touching it, so he nipped me. I couldn’t even go near a dog for years. Then, one day, I woke up and dogs were my favorite thing ever.

My ideal dog breed is a dog at least 18 inches, energetic, but also will curl up with you on the couch. The dog I first wanted was an English springer spaniel. My dad said they were too active, so I looked for other dogs. Huskies we’re too generic for me, though I’d love to have one. Instead I asked for a Samoyed. They are this big puffy white balls of floof and re just adorable. I guess I fell out of dogs for a while since I knew it would be years and years before I could get one.

A little while later I started looking into cross breed dogs. After many days of looking, I found the bernedoodle. See here’s the thing. I hate poodles (no offense). They’re clingy, high maintenance, and not really good with small animals. I do however love their curly coat and wide variety of patterns. Bernese mountain dogs have had a special place in my heart though. Beautiful, caring dogs that will curl up on the couch despite their size, love their owners, and protects them. Not to mention they are perfect energy for me. Sadly, my dad says they’re too big, plus they don’t live long.

So a crossbreed of these two, endless coat variations, size, and a great personality all sound amazing to me. Energy level is great. I can take it on walks, runs, hikes, and still have enough energy to go to the dog park or play fetch in the backyard. The only bad thing about them for me is their separation anxiety. I have school and sports, older sister has school and plays, and little sister will be scared of the thing. Parents work at home and at the office, but sometimes they both are at the office on the same day. I figure we give him a friend, my dad wants a hakkaido/Ainu dog, but those are rare so he settled for an Icelandic sheepdog. Leave them out together on one of those wire things they can run around in, but also provide them individual dog houses and a shed or something with air conditioning, that should be fine. (Of course water)

If I haven’t hooked you on bernedoodles I’d do some research. The only thing bad with these guys is separation anxiety from the poodle and high coat maintenance (again from the poodle). Oh and did I say they can be very alert guard dogs? These dogs sense danger and will bark loudly if they do. This trait is from the Bernese.

Ok if you’re still not convinced a bernedoodle is the best dog, they have low risk for disease. Hip dysplasia is really the only thing they suffer from. Also, look up Merle tri-color bernedoodle. Those are beautiful dogs and when I get one that’s really what I’ll be looking at.

My senior citizen German Shepherd. She loves playing ball, soccer is her favorite.

I tried but she has no interest in my fish collection, won't willingly set foot in the fish room.

We have 4 tanks, plus a whites tree frog, an English setter who is supposed to be high energy but sleeps on the couch all day and a 20.5 year old cat who also has hyperthyroidism, we get his meds compounded and they flavor it like chicken and it just goes on his food twice a day. My cousin has a bernedoodle and she is……..not very intelligent and 110 lbs looks like a pony.

Other pets… Baka my rescue boxer (retired from a breeder) now he never works and is a complete glutton lol. Also Annabelle, a rescued cattle dog (appears to have a bit of husky and coyote in her) suuuuuper sweet, highly intelligent, and tons of energy. And Sasha, a beautiful Brazilian Rainbow Boa. We have two tanks… and looking to expand. My tanks are my favorite show lol… I can’t stop watching my fish, I think it might be a clinical addiction lol
And now my son is thinking he needs to add a Malaysian leaf frog to our family… hmmm

Yeah, it really depends on the bernedoodle though. Your cousins bernedoodle is definitely a standard cross breed between the two. They can get HUGE. As for the intelligence I don’t think it’s not smart I just think it’s stubborn. Poodles and extremely intelligent (I think they are the 2nd most intelligent dog) and Bernese mountain dogs are smart too (I think 27th smartest dog) so mixing these gets a very smart dog. Sadly Bernese mountain dogs can be stubborn and your cousins bernedoodle most likely inherited that trait.

It’s always great to rescue dogs! Buying from a shelter as well. Most people tend to buy from a specific breeder, which is probably the best and safest thing to do. On the other hand, dogs from shelters and rescue dogs most be so sad. They’re cooped up all day, and occasional human interaction just to not get taken home. I hate to admit it but for my first few dogs I’m staying safe and buying a puppy from a breeder. Later I will look into animal shelter/rescue dogs.

Picked up 4 more mourning geckos today: 3 A1 and one yellowbelly to add to our current A1 pair.

Our lone Guinea pig, last of her herd, Daffodil/Doofadoo/Doof. She’s unapologetically my favorite little void.

6AFB5729-694C-45D0-839D-A9AAC7252FF2.jpeg
She also lost her top teeth to an abscess so her lips sort of just curl around her food:

There’s the gargoyle gecko I took in four years ago from a neglectful classmate, Penhollow Stickyfingers Magee. He’s a spiteful introvert who wants nothing more than to be left alone. Recently (to his dismay) we upgraded him from an 18” x 18” x 24” to an 18” x 18” x 36” (here’s him in his old enclosure)

70CDDB93-9E0D-4701-A03E-EADBE1C6FBD0.jpeg

And my dog Callie Mae. She’s a Pyrenees/Australian Cattle dog/Chihuahua mix from Alabama. She’s pretty much just Soft TM and my baby.

9F807DAF-E100-4386-B9F9-F8452617F573.jpeg

and the rental dog, Oso, who’s a 90lbs fear biter/resource guarder with a bite history from Texas who we’ve been working with for two years. The people who run the rescue pretty much adopted him now because he’s wonderful.

My older sister loves rats. Horses are a lot of work but again if you can keep up with it great. Rabbits aren’t as much work, my friend has 2.

There's a whole lot for me, since my family has grown up around animals. I also keep loaches, tetras, rasboras, more dogs, more goats, Bettas, snails, etc.
