Lethargic Mystery Snail

So I have this mystery snail that I really love. I've only had it for a couple of months and here lately it has been acting pretty lazy. Normaly I wouldn't be worried about this but this is HIGHLY irregular for this snail, from the day I got it until this week it has been zipping around the tank 24/7! I have caught it and my ivory breeding so I'm wondering if maybe she is acting lethargic because she is about to lay a clutch? Also I am embarrassed to say that I haven't been putting in as much broccolI as I should. Any help would be appreciated, TIA!

What else are you feeding? Protein is highly recommended, pellets etc in addition to occasional veggies.

Food is important, I feed mine two types of veggies every other day.

Just added some spinach, hopefully this won't be an issue anymore!

Unlike most other snails, Mystery snails require more animal protein than vegetable matter in their diet. Copper free shrimp pellets would be better than broccolI or spinach. How large is the snail? Size is the best indicator of age and since Mystery's seldom live more than a year, he could be getting old. A snail that is larger than a quarter in diameter is probably approaching it's expiration date.

It's a tiny bit smaller than a quarter.

Geez mine must be ancient then. I have a male that's about the size of a half dollar coin!

I'm so sorry for your loss. I was going to suggest maybe he's doing the thing where snails kinda hibernate.

It's okay, it was a pretty big snail, who knows how old it was when I got it. I just wish I would have caught it sooner.

Yeah I don't know... Like I mentioned earlier I have a male who is HUGE and is still really active. So I can't help but wonder if age really was a factor here. That or I have a super-snail.

That is a very big snail. Are you sure it's a Mystery and not an Apple snail?

Aren't apples illegal in the states?

Sorry that you ended up losing him! Mystery snails only live around a year on average, I just lost my two eldest ones and they were at least 6 months old but they were both large when I got them. It's likely that yours was just very old
