Let The Games Begin.... (sw Tank Build)

And May the odds be ever so in favor. I’m taking the dive back into saltwater! I decided on a nano ten gallon. I’m going to run 2 HOB’s and a (baby) powerhead. One HOB will be a refugeum for chaeto. The other will hold my heater and activated carbon. In terms of rockscape, I currently only have a few pieces so I need to find some more from the LFS...
light: Probably an aqua knight hingepro
Stocking:
2 Percula or False Percula Clowns
And some nertile snails.
Some Zoas
Possibly Xenia’s (they look pretty and will be on an island)
Possably frogspawn, elegance, or Duncan’s
Eventually (maybe) some SPS because my family loves them...
I’ll have the tank ready for fish by April 29th and it should be holding water this week!

Actuall Builing:
Phase One: Cycle Tank
Phase Two: Add Fish
Phase 3: Get all of the cool coral stuff I want (ie. lid, light ect.)
Phase 4: Get some easy to keep softies and lps
Phase 5: Hopefully clownfish breed!
Phase 6: Coral fragging!
Phase 7:May never happen Try sps!!!
Phase 8: UPGRADE TANK!!! (To ya know, like...

700 gallons)
Disclaimer: if any personal acquaintances of mine ask, I never said phase 8...
I’m glad to have fishlore whose constant advice has been super helpful in all of the planning.
Current pic of tank below:
Note: the bettas are going to find another tank to live in... they should have quite a selection!

Get the Prime HD for your lighting I have one on my salt tank and I love it and I’m only running it at like 20% of the lights capability and my corals are growing amazing

Xenias will overrun a tank that size you might want to skip on them for that reason. The hiparego is a real good nano light I can say and I would use it for every nano reef. Will you be using dry rock or live rock most people start with dry now these days to prevent pests and etc. Just take the steps carefully and I'll assure you will enjoy sw once again.

Xenia May very well overrun the tank, but I’m hoping to give it a solid plot of land so that I’ll have time to frag before that happens. I’m planning on going with dry rock becaus I have some extra laying around from my 3 other tanks.....

Fragging Xenia rarely works out well because it uses an almost root like growing strategy. Unless you plan on having it be the only coral in your tank, I definitely wouldn't put it in a 10 gallon. It will end up being more hassle than it's worth.

As for the rest, it sounds like a plan although I don't think the heater in the HOB filter would work well. I think all that direct flow will affect how well it does it's job.

Ok. Thanks for the advice. I’ll probably get rid of the Xenia Island. Thanks for the heater advice. I’ll just put it in the tank.
