Now as most are aware I started a new aquarium a couple of days ago. Used ceramics that have been sat in a mesh bag inside one of the other aquariums to kickstart the new one just as I have done many times before.
All is going well, new aquarium is doing all the right things.....but then I saw something unexpected.....a little orange creature darting across the glass
Wombat the Minnow.....and this cheeky little Minnow is definitely a dozy wombat cos somehow the little blighter has managed to escape his aquarium and move into the new one that is nowhere near ready for residents yet.
Obviously I have tried to capture the escapee and return him to his rightful aquarium....where the wife is pacing something chronic, frying pan in fin to whack him over the head when he gets home from his escapades. But alas Wombat is far too happy in the new aquarium and has evaded every attempt to catch him.
I can only assume that he sneaked into the bag of filter media and patiently waited for me to rinse the net bag out into the new aquarium then made a break for it. I was so careful too, have done this sort of media seed and transfer many times but I guess there is always a first time to get a sneaky hitchiker
Anyway, he is as happy as a piggy in poo as lone fish in 60 litres of warm water, darting all over the place, flow riding and generally giving me the middle fin everytime I try to catch him.
I guess I now have an official aquarium road tester....whether I wanted one or not
