HI guys! I'm getting a 40 gallon tank on blackfriday for my leopard geckos but I'm not sure what would be best?

Should I get an Exo Terra Low?or Exo Terra High/normal?

What wattage heat bulbs should I get? (To maintain temp, I am getting a heat mat as well!)

High. They like to climb. Heat mats are a little sketchy imo

Same issue. You could get a 40 gallon or I'm planning for the exo terra low large. I think the 40 gallon is best. I imagined it as taking my current 20long side by side. Try going in store to see what you may like more. I would say a regular 40 gallon. (Ask me to get photos for you later)
For heating: You NEED a heat mat as that's how they digest their food. Lol I will go check at home what wattage mine is.

Not sure if you have Big Als but these tanks can be used for water too and a very tasty price and quality!

I agree with the above! If you’re going with the exo terra because it’s aesthetically please, then by all means go for it. But a 40 gallon breeder is larger and way better for the price. Regardless, I would go with the high/normal one as opposed to the low because it will be easier for you to maintain ambient air temps as well as basking temps.

As for lighting verses heat mat, I would do a combination of both because I don’t think a heat mat alone is going to increase the AMBIENT air enough. I say a heat mat for sure because leopard geckos need belly heat in order to digest their food. If not, I would make sure it has a rock close to (but not directly under) the lamp so it’s able to get belly heat from that.

I’m not sure on wattage, I’m really bad with that. I let my boyfriend figure that all out. I would use a thermostat with whatever you decide to go with so you know your temperatures aren’t fluctuating like crazy.

I use an Exo Terra 24x18x12. That or a 20L is what I always like as a leopards for life tank.

I swear by Heat mats. They really need that belly heat. I don't currently use an above bulb or any sort but I might get a lightless lamp (ceramic heat emitter?). I stopped using lighting in mine because mine is an old one and has eyesight issues as it is. I was worried the light bothered that.

Henry does use his heat lamp. He likes to warm his belly in the evening on his rocks. Plus he likes to warm his head before he wakes up.
