Yes you can grow plants under LED light but there are different types of LED lights some are meant for plants and some are not. I use the Marineland "Plant" LED on my 65 gallon.

Here is my tank at two months.

The plants are in sand. i use Flourish root tabs ( 5 to cover the entire tank, replaced every 3 months), Flourish Excel (liquid CO2 supplement, 5 ml every other day), Flourish Comprehensive (liquid micro nutrients, 5 ml once a week)

LED all the way. I use the Aquaray GroBeam 600's (2) and love it.

I use LED also. A Satellite 6500k Led and a couple of Marineland hidden led lights (also 6500k). My plants would all be considered low tech or low to med light plants.

Do you like your internal filter? I have been thinking of switching from hob to internal.

CindiL I use both an internal (Fluval U3) and a canister filter (Fluval 406)on my 65 gallon. I use the canister to provide lots of room for my bio filter media. i use the internal filter to provide additional current and circulation in the tank. i found just running the canister there was not enough current to move the debris in the tank to the filter inlet and it collected in dead zones in the tank.
